self portrait
30D 18 - 55 mm kit lens.
spot metering
i used standard lightbulb lol.
this picture proves that lens isn't a big deal if you REALLY know how to take pictures, i was surprised with the results lol.
i gotta say tho... it's kinda annoying carrying around a 5 pound camera around the city after 5 hours of caryin it it really hurts my shoulders

this would've been a nice opportunity to try out bracketing and do a little post processing magic

a 30D weights 5 pound?
more like a better opportunity to learn how to expose properly =P

dunno... depends on the effect you are going for i guess. but too much contrast for 'overall' exposure

But think about the lens... My shoulders hurt like hell too because I carried my Kiss X, battery grip, and 2 lenses around the whole day... And the suckiest part is I'll probably have to repeat this tomorrow... ; _ ;
I'll upload some pictures -- I went to San Francisco today...^^

A picture of Macy's in San Francisco

Cheesecake! YUM...
I didn't do any postprocessing so... yeah ._.

Go search reviews for the camera on CNET or DPReview.

i think it depends on your goals. if it's a simple hobby, the d50, xti would be good enough. but if you want to pursue photography more seriously, i think it's ok to look for the better models. 30D/d80 would be good starters (which can make great backups in the future).
if you're limited by funds, then obviously, you get what you can afford and work your way up.

that's a very old camera. make the most of it, and see if it meets your requirements. if it suits your needs, no need to buy a new one, unless you have money and you want something more modern.

Shouldn't the flash be pointing towards the ceiling rather than to your left? I'm not good with flash yet so I don't know for sure but yeah... The light's only getting to the left side of your face...
