5D Mark II + EF 50mm f/1.2L USM
It was taken at ISO 3200. The restaurant was crazy dark -- there was almost no light -.- Massive photoshopping haha;;
Do you guys see the vertical banding on the sweatshirt? I still haven't done the firmware upgrade yet *goes to do it* sleep.gif

Olympus E-420 + 25mm f/2.8 Pancake

hey guys i'm looking to get my first dslr and looking at getting the Canon 450d/XSi. there's a few different lens packages available and i'm not sure which one to pick out, what would you guys recommend from the following and why?:

Canon EOS 450D Value Kit Incl. 18-55mm IS and 75-300mm Lenses AU$1,229.00
Canon EOS 450D w/ EF-S 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS + EF-S 55-250mm F4.5-5.6 IS AU$1,299.00
Canon EOS 450D w/ Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 LD Aspherical (IF) AU$1,549.00
Canon EOS 450D w/ Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS AU$1,579.00
Canon EOS 450D w/ Tamron AF 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 LD Aspherical (IF) Macro AU$1,619.00
Canon EOS 450D Premium Kit Incl. 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens AU$1,649.00
Canon EOS 450D w/Tamron AF 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 XR DI VC AU$1,799.00

I have the 450D with just the 18-55mm and it's perfect for a beginner like me since I don't do the landscape shotting.

^the 18-55 is great for landscape shooting. Try it out.

So... can anyone recommend a good bang-for-buck light meter? My Yashica's built in light meter is very old and not very reliable I've found out (sucks), and I don't want to lug another camera to check exposure.

nice shots erure my camera does at best 1600 so iso 3200 is really something else. The vertical banding is trivial compared to the amount of noise I know I will get if I were to shoot at 1600... much less (lets say in theory I can enable 3200) something that high!

o.o but now that I look at it, I think F1.8 of the 50mm is good enough, your 1.2 gives a bit more bokeh than I would prefer

Thanks. The bokeh is a bit much in that photo more than usual because my brother's head was totally tilted down and it wasn't perpendicular to the table? haha. Anyway at f/1.2 it's ridiculously soft but I still love the lens smile.gif

I wouldn't sell that because a) film cameras have depreciated in value too much that I'd rather just keep one than sell it at ridiculously low prices and b ) no offense, but it's pretty banged up. It's hard enough to sell a film camera even in like new condition these days... sleep.gif

I speak the differ, If you go to b&h personally
which you probably never had.

you can get a canon f1. practically... new.. lol
or really incredibly good condition.

but i'm sure it'll stop selling someday, and the quality will diminish over time

MMmmmm. I have a question, Do you think purchasing the Nikon D 90 Kit is a good investment? My mom suggested buying the costco kit because there's a 90 day refund in case I don't like it. unsure.gif I heard the 18-108mm VR lens it comes with sucks.

Yeah I defiantly recommend the 50mm f1.8 lens as well. It's a must for a photographer I think XP. And it's reasonably priced too (about 100 bucks on amazon).
If you have the money for it: Get a 18-200mm VR Lens! Lol I wish I did....

Long time lurker here, first time poster.
Okay so I'm looking to buy my first DSLR. I'm tied between getting these:

Nikon d40
Nikon d60
Canon rebel xsi
& maybe a Nikon d80

& for the packages I'm looking at the ones on ritz camera:
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/541162053.htm
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1192.htm
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1183.htm
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1172.htm

Heres a few of my questions:
Which camera is overall better? (especially for a first time buyer)
If those packages weren't "on sale" what would a regular price range be in general?
Which camera has the best deal?
Can I find deals like that (if not better) at places other than ritz?
Do you guys have any better camera recommendations for a first time dslr buyer?
Cause right now I just use a regular pentax 10 megapixel digital camera.

Thank youuu!

18-105mm doesn't do such a bad job.
Well the thing is..what are your needs? If you absolutely must have video , then sure, if not...not really unless money is not an issue. There are many limitations to the D90's movie mode ( I own one ). If video is what you're interested about then I'll explain tongue.gif D90 has some other incremental features over the D80 like new CMOS sensor..3inch LCD ( woo bigg ), live view ( meh i only use it for video ), 4.5fps and some other things.

don't let the price of the 50mm f1.8 fool you. its excellent, especially since you're photographing people. best bang for your buck.

Nikon D80 vs D90 - which one would you guys recommend for an amateur beginner?
I'm thinking about the D90 & I want to get a kit, but from where?
I was looking at Costco, but I have no clue what lenses I want @_@

Is budget an issue? If not then D90. If yes then D80. Since you can also spend the extra money on better lenses.

I would simply buy the D90 online, unless there's a chance you think you may want to return it. At the moment I see the D90 kit for $1,550 online.

oh and here are some pictures i took during the filming of my project

I currently own a Nikon D90 with an 18-200mm lens, and I love it; it's like an all-in-one lens, haha. ^^ However, the only thing I can complain about is the weight/bulkiness of the lens, and lately I've been thinking about getting a lighter lens just for those days when I'm just taking pictures of my friends and stuff... maybe a 50mm?
Would that be a good idea? Getting a lighter lens just for the sake of convenience? (And if so, what lens would you recommend?)
Or should I just get over the bulkiness of the 18-200mm? lol
