^Thanks watcher.

Leica lenses aren't expensive for no reason... They're pretty damn sharp.

Hi erure, Happy belate birthday!
i never seen a rangefinder camera before (or knew of its existence) - but from what i gathered fromyour awesome pictures, would i be correct to say that its high end type of point and shoot camera? What advantage/disadvantages would i get with a rangefinder camera from an SLR? Are the lens changable, noise/low light performance? Looks pretty awesome, might consider to grab one as a backup camera biggrin.gif

Thanks! Yeah I love my M8.2 -- I take it everywhere these days since it's so portable.

Sorry, but rangefinders are not high-end point-and-shoots. The price is actually generally higher than DSLRs -- you'd think otherwise from the size though, right? smile.gif The rangefinder's biggest advantages over the SLR/DSLR are that it is a lot smaller in size, so it's discreet and allows for great street photography (i.e. taking photos of random people without them noticing ph34r.gif), and because there is no mirror, you can take photos at longer shutter speeds than SLR/DSLR. The lenses are changeable. Noise and low light performance on M8.2 is definitely waaay worse than DSLRs -- the noise is very pretty though (in black and white... in color the noise looks horrible). My 5D Mark II is much better at low light than M8.2 for sure. And I think you should do a little more research before considering it as a back-up camera sweatingbullets.gif

So I did my first start trail picture. This one was for an hour. I think the trails come from the stars making up Orion?

btdubs, flickr did some heavy sharpening. The trails looks jagged.

I want to try again but with an exposure of a couple hours. Should I have used a ultra wide?

woah haha wasn't expecting a 4~5k price tag! (AUD) which is almost the cost of Nikon's flagship D3 body! jesus you werent kidding when you said it priced higher than SLRS haha.. so much for "high end point and shoot eh?" lol.

Yup, a Leica M8.2 costs ~$6000 USD right now. A very pretty penny.

Wow is that retail price? ouch. i was saying 4~5k based on a quick ebay search haha..
6k USD retail in aus would slam that to like 7/8k-ish AU then. Jesus thats more than a nikon d3 + d700 body or almost a Canon 5D Mark II + 1D Mark III body combined... wow that just boggles the mind lol.
Is photography your occupation or just hobby if you dont mind me asking? haha wow it still boggles my mind.

Haha yeah there is a pretty big price difference between M8 and M8.2 but for some reason on EXIF it just shows up as M8.

It's a hobby... I'd love to make a living out of it but lots of things hold me back.

No regrets yet! smile.gif

I've been stalking this thread for awhile now, haha. sweatingbullets.gif I was wondering if you guys know whether the Canon XS or Nikon D40 prices will drop or not in a month or two?
Also, does anyone mind explaining to me why the silver Rebels cost more than the black ones? I've noticed that the silver Canon XT/XTi/XS/XSi are at least $10 more expensive than the black ones (on most of the online stores I've been to at least).

I'd wait a little while because there are supposed to be upgraded versions of D40 coming out soon, resulting in even more price decrease. And don't get the silver ones because they look like toys...

Thats awesome you're so lucky XSi even tears.gif I thought it would be something old like the XT

crazy.gif Your signature... max size 400x175 40kb

I thought the Silver cameras were cheaper because no one wants them... ._. I mean it doesn't even match the lens what were they thinking?!

i finally got a canon xs!!! i love it but i don't know how to use it very well yet~~it's all trial/error and practice i was originally going to get the xsi but the camera store worker told me that i might as well get the xs for about $150 cheaper plus i got the 75-300 lens (not the greatest lens) for only $30 with the xs as well as a camera bag/cleaning kit so i was happy :]

Congrats.
I would definitely consider the 35mm f/1.4G that's coming out soon.
