How many Soompiers actually carry around their DSLR with them 24/7?
I realized that I miss many shots as I don't carry it out with me when I go to my lectures because laptop+textbooks are enough. I've been thinking of getting a compact like the Ricoh GR Digital to complement my DSLR for "everyday" use.

I used to carry my Leica M8.2 around with me everywhere, but I can't these days because I'm on crutches

It does get repetitive but like you said, the answers are all scattered around and a lot of the time it's quicker (and easier) to just ask and then have someone answer when you check back 10 mins later.
Besides, everyone's gotta start somewhere, when ppl are truly passionate about photography they probably wouldn't mind answering the same questions 10 times a day, much like the pastor of a church hehe.
Just my opinion.
For a beginner asking basic questions, it wouldn't actually hurt to skim this topic from the beginning (every page~!). Whatever you don't understand in terms of lingo, cross reference it and look it up on other sites for definitions. I didn't use Soompi, but I sure did a lot of effort in to learning as much as I can about photography in general (not just which camera to get) before I got my first DSLR.

I feel naked without my dslr.
As for the question whether or not the body is important, I think it depends what youre doing. I have the xti, and realize how much its bad for low lit events, i can go up to 800 but sometimes i want to go up to 1600 but at that ISO its horrid, and I see friends with 5Ds hittin 1600 with good images. If its during the day it doesnt matter, but as for evenings and nights, I wish for something better than the xti... 3 months till i get that 5d mkii

I used to... then I came to school and ended up only taking pictures for assignments. I have a toy film camera that I carry around 24/7 now-- I tell myself I should always have my DSLR, I should really start up again.

On the other hand, I finally got my second lense!
It may not be very interesting for you guys, but compared to the kit lens, the 50/1.8 is just breathing sex onto my body.. camera body
I also found it new for 100CDN/68USD no tax, which I thought was a pretty good deal.
Hope to shoot more now! And thanks for the ones that recommended this lens to me!

IR is neat and I have read about things like unexposed film or floppy disks as cheap IR filters but I wonder if it works without modifications to the sensor to remove the internal anti-IR filter

I wonder if the prices for the XS and the XSi would drop like mad when it comes out...

I'm thinking of saving up for a d90, but might end up getting the d60 since it's smaller in size :/

For me, the picture is too much on the wide end of your lens. Any way you can make it tighter using a longer focal length? That's just my preference. No obligations!
I like the light though. Looks like window light.

Here's a quick shot I did last night to test out the lens. It's gorgeous

*edit, oh wow 11-point AF system compared to the 3 point system they were using on their d40/60... thats quite an upgrade already

I wish they'd do away with the no internal motor bullcrap but the rotating LCD sounds promising... Or maybe it's the best time to get the D40 since they're going to be discontinued.
