I was wondering, what's the difference between the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and the Canon 50mm f/1.8?
Is the f/1.4 worth the extra ~$150? o_O I'm kind of confused sweatingbullets.gif

It depends on your budget. If you can afford the f/1.4, I'd get that for sure. I used both lenses and the build quality is much better with the f/1.4. The f/1.8 feels like a toy made out of cheap plastic. Plus, the f/1.4 has USM (ultrasonic motor) while the f/1.8 doesn't, which means slower (and noisier, as in sound not ISO noise lol) autofocus in the f/1.8.

This blew me away! Looove ittt. Where/which pond did you go to? I haven't seen any ponds THAT clear before.. not in Toronto at least.
Also out of curiosity, do you go to OCAD?

Thanks! That was a shot from High Park. I was suprised as well regarding the clarity of the water. I actually go to UofT, OCAD would be nice if I was pursuing arts.

woah i dont use a high zooms..
mostly the 24-70mm f2.8 with the d3
or the d300 with the 17-55mm f2.8
but when i get to take my time 85.4 Carl Ziess manual focus..
and sometimes the ziess 50.4
ziess are really sharp lenses from ive used so far..

^ Wish I had more time and resources to do model photography. Great shots~! Any more info on yourself and the shots? Do this for a living? Very curious. Some of your shots seem pretty close for an upper limit of 70mm. Any reason not to use a 70-200? Not that I do portraits that often but my 24-70 is quite limiting for portraits. Trying to save up for the 85 and 135 primes but in the meantime, the 70-200 is a champ~! (except for the bulk and the size) smile.gif

I shoot at a studio in seoul, south korea..
it belongs to a friend and i shoot there just for fun..
and no i do not do this for a living.. just an expensive hobby i guess..
for indoor portraits.. i rarely or do not see anyone using a 70-200..
probably because of the limited space..
with the 70-200mm you would probably only be able to shoot the face..
wouldnt be able to get the whole body picture unless you were shooting outside..
with the d3 and 24-70mm or d300 17-55mm i would be able to hold it by hand and shoot comfortably
and i rarely use the tripod [my tripod isnt to great] only use it when i have lack of lighting..
if i were pro id get one of those tripods that gives you a lot of angles..
i also use the 85mm prime for portraits getting only half the body shots.. or face shots..

and if you go to the convention centers to see the auto shows..
there are alot of people who come to take picture of the racing models..
at that place maybe a 70-200mm would be usefull..
i guess it all depends how much space you got to work with..

^I rarely use it on my D90. I have to do manual focus, which sucks when your subject is not still. Otherwise, it's alright.. lol I don't know how else to describe it 'cause I don't use it much at all.
