Wow. After two years of saving up and contemplating on which DSLR I should buy..
I finally bought the Nikon D5000 today! <3
I'm so happy but I wanted to buy a D60 since I'm a beginner...however, most of the stores have withdrawn all D60 models for some reason. They're all pushing the D5000 now =/
congrats! From the reviews, it's supposed to be fantastic!
and the d40 & d60 bodies have been discontinued as far as I've heard.
Just got a D40 for my birthday! I'm so happy.

I decided to also start a 365 project today for kicks~ If anyone else has a flickr, add me? (:
Haha. I'm just shamelessly advertising myself ._.
Anywaaaaay, here's a picture I took for day 1. I took this on manual. dSLRs are harder to use than I thought it'd be but I love it so far.

I hope to really progress haha.

You're brave to start out using full Manual mode! I use Av about 90% of the time, Tv 5% for creative purposes, and Manual the remaining when I'm either using flash or when I want a certain look before I PP the photos.
'Ello~I'm just getting into photography (well..the taking the pics part) & I am a total noob when it comes to cameras. What exactly is a Dslr? I know they are Cameras but what makes them different from others (like details). And could can anyone recommend a good camera to start with. Right now I use my mom's Fujifilm FinePix s5700/s700 (7mp). Is that a good camera? Cause', yeah, I know nothing about photography.
and I dunno if this is the place to ask but in some pictures I see an object, like a flower for instance, and then everything in the back of it is sort of blurred. (example http://www.flickr.com/photos/aschultz/3403554968/) Is that an effect with the camera? Or photoshop? & with some pictures they have those colorful dots in the background. How is that done too? (example- http://www.flickr.com/photos/abenedetti/3428399113/ )
Wiki: DSLR, Bokeh, and Depth of Field and you'll find your answers. It's just too much to try and explain.
I think it's good to start out with a small P&S because although you may not have the technical skills, you'll be able to practice your creativity and concepts. I think that's what helped me shoot abnormal and interesting photos, but make them 'pop' using my DSLR.
I was going to get my DSLR next month, but I decided to buy it today

I should get it by next week, can't wait to take photos with it! Will post photos once I receive the camera

awesome, what'd you get up getting?

So, I've sold my 40D and Tamron 17-50 lens and have a 16-35L mk1 on the way and realized that I feel like I'm spending GOBS of money into this hobby. haha If someone told me back in February that in 5 months, I would no longer have any of my original photography equipment and instead have two L lenses, a baller 50mm prime lens, a 1D MarkII, and spending 3 times my original budget, I would have never believed them.
