Don't forget that it's usually due to heavy noise reduction in-camera.

Still, I've been eyeing that cam since it was announced. Bummed that they dropped the initial design, but it still looks like an homage to Oly's pen series.

Seriously considering getting one since I've been using my Olympus XA alot and would love a digital.

I'm not quite sure about the entire technical information that i'm reading on, but apparently it has to do with Olympus's AA filter. They've changed it somehow. An increase in Resolution and better control of noise does seem to be consistent with the sample images taken and uploaded onto the last page of the link that i posted.

IMO this redefines and creates a whole new class of cameras.
No compromises.
Compact camera with DSLR imaging guts. Leaps and bounds above the G1 or the GH1.

Olympus, back in the game!
LONG LIVE µ4/3rds!!!!

*edit
the new trupic V engine promises better resolution and lower noise.
It seems to be the case based on the few images posted in the gallery at dpreview.
ISO 6400 is like ISO 1600 on my E-510

I've been eying this for some time as well. SO GETTING IT!

The other day my dad offered to give me his Rebel XT to replace my old Digital Rebel and he would be getting an XS. I've been thinking about getting an XS too though. Can anyone give me some pros and cons on each?

New pictures of my newest doll. ^^;

Yes, I've seen some photos posting around the net with that lens...they're so beautiful!
I thought it might be a good lens to have since summer is here and I'll be on road trips around the states.
Could someone recommend an ''everyday'' lens for me?
It doesn't have to be extremely fancy.
I'm just starting out and the 40D and sigma 10-20mm will be my first purcahse. biggrin.gif
I'm so excited!

Sounds like you're really adamant about getting the ultra wide angle. That's cool, but I hope you either buy a 50mm 1.8 or the EF-S 188-55 IS because with only the sigma, you won't be able to shoot anything but landscapes and buildings. Because of barrel distortion, people will look streched out and awkward. The 50mm could be had for $90~ and the 18-55 IS could be bought for $120~. Both prices are considering if you bought used.

If you're a canon user, I really recommend the following forum.

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/

Huge community of Canon shooters including hobbists and professionals. They are very helpful and friendly. Just be warned... they encourage you to upgrade and you'll find yourself being egged on to buying things that you've wanted. haha It takes some self restraint!

On a personal note, I decided to forgo my aspirations for the Canon 85 1.2. I just simply love using the 70-200 on 5dii for indoor portraits and can easily do without the 85. I don't do this for a living or get paid heavily so the primes can wait. BUT instead, I'm seriously eyeing the Canon 100-400 to use on my 40d and eventually 60d upgrade later this year. I'm finding more and more that I wish the 70-200 on 40d can zoom more and the 100-400 would be 2x the answer in terms of focal range. Sweet~! The aperture loss on the 100-400 is unimportant (4.5-5.6 vs 2.8) because at these ranges most of my shooting is done in the day time in well lit situations.

aw~ sorry to hear they you won't be getting 'the keg'. I hear it's an awesome piece of glass. But it sounds like you've already lined up your next gear, so I really don't feel that bad for you. haha
If you don't mind me asking, what do you regularly shoot that you find yourself going past 200mm on a 1.6 crop?

The Nikon D40 has been officially discontinued after the anouncement and sale of the D5000 but you might be able to find it in some stores still or buy used or ebay online.
Google 'D40 review' and you'll get more information you want. I good review site is dpreview.com. It gets very technical, but I trust that the most.

I've yet to read anything on the D-Lux 4 (but I do have the D-Lux 3 & 4 DPreview preview article open now and it looks HOT!). edit: The two cameras have already been launched as the Panasonic Lumix LX3 and FX37 respectively, with less subtle exteriors and different default parameters.

A lot of my friends have bought the LX3 when they were in the market for a high priced Point 'n Shoot. It was either that or a G10, and they all choose the Panasonic due to how it felt in there hands, wide angel lens and it's overal ease of use. If I can find their Flickr pages I'll edit the links in later :] Some of their snaps were pretty good, but then again I'm a newb so I'm impressed easily tongue.gif

edit: found one flick. At least one more to find

My main reasons not to get the 85 1.2 is I can't justify needing it for anything specific. Why do I want the 100-400? I guess its mostly for candids and things which are way out of my reach. Lately, I've been doing a lot of nature photography and been enjoying taking shots of people in Manhattan. The 320mm effective on the 70-200 didn't cut it. The 100-400 would open possibilities which didn't exist before for both purposes.
:)

If you have the money go for the 17-55mm if you don't see yourself upgrading to FF anytime soon. If you are a little low on cash then go with the Tamron 17-50mm. The 50mm f/1.8 is definitely a great portrait lens and prime in general. You just have to get used to using it.

Sorry I meant 24-70mm 2.8 I really like it and made almost enough to purchase it from that one Prom gig. I hope you can recommend a good canon lens for me. Thanks a bunch and thanks for checking out my images. The 430 or the 580 speedlight flash, which is the one most of the people here use? I love seeing Soompi user photographs, theyre so sharp and creative.

I just fell in love lol xD
That's the most beautiful camera I ever seen in my entire life o_o
I have a thing for vintage cameras and that camera is a clash between their late 50s/60s camera and a dslr, which is a plus. That's a amazing! w00t.gif

It better be as good as it sounds tongue.gif I'm so excited for it.

I have both the G9 and the D-Lux 4. Even though the G9 is like a tank, I end up carrying the D-Lux 4 with me because I love 24mm wide angle, the lens is crazy (24-60mm f/2.0-2.8) and it's waaaay prettier than the G9 lol. But the G9 definitely feels sturdier and the LCD screen is bigger too. I have some photos taken with my D-Lux 4 on a road trip right now (from California to New York by car) on my flickr smile.gif

thats odd? are you sure your uptodate with the most current camera raw(5.3)? B/c the newer cameras raw wont open unless you have it (my d90 for example)
With the plugin downloaded try running the installer application that came with it (might tie it down to your registry(windows)/libary(mac) ) And if that didnt work copy then try copying plugin manually into the file extentioni folder within photoshop.
go to...

where you installed Photoshop -> Plug-ins folder -> file extention folder
Let me know how you go.

Ahk, totally super super super super late response dry.gif I fail.
But yeah...... it doesn't work. Or perhaps I'm just doing it wrong >_<
sigh*

Above is a link to a sample gallery.
After some invesitigation it seems that noise suppression IS better, but of course, not as good as the D90.
HOWEVER, even at ISO 6400, it seems that there is very little detail destruction from chroma noise blotches.
And up to ISO 3200, there is very little visble chroma noise, mostly luma.

Not sure if this has been asked, but I can't seem to open my raw files on my computer. I'm using windows vista. The file type is a .nef file, I have adobe photoshop cs3 and still won't open :/ Anyone know why?

the d5000 is a relatively new camera, you might have to upgrade to the latest version of adobe camera raw

BrocadeFabric - Thanks for your input!
I've only heard about it from a friend that is helping me pick out some starting gear. I just told him I'd like a nice wide angle or telephoto lens for landscapes and he suggested that. For trying on a lens...can I just bring my camera into a camera specialty store to try on the lenses?

[HyuNi] - Thanks, my friend also directed me to that forum! ^-^

What I'm looking for doesn't necessarily have to be the sigma 10-20mm. Afterall, I am just starting out.
But I would like to have a lens where I can capture tall buildings and trees and some great landscapes!
