so according to dpreview, the d60 has continuous shooting buffer capacity for the jpeg as much as the memory allows (limited only by storage), which means given the right memory card, i can take continuous shots without stopping for the r value to fill up again until the whole memory card is filled?

hmm techically yes... but b/c the D40~D90 only take SD memory cards this can't realistically happen (at least for the time being). Even the best SD cards arent fast enough to outcopy the camera buffer limit (they no where near the speed of UMDA and CF cards). Like i said in my previous post, the highest SD card are the class 6 branded ones - and i can tell you they arent fast enough to beat my D90's buffer (i only get R9~r12). Should be interesting to see what happens when the class 10 cards come out.
About the D60 buffer...You might want to check, i do think the D60 has a limit on how much it can shoot before it stops (camera mechanism that prevents the sensor from overheating etc.)

When you guys say, you guys "sell" your cameras, where do you guys sell them?!
On ebay & other online stores, or like at photo stores?

Do you guys think it'll be fine if I bought lens for my D40; but I end up, later sometime
buying a D90 or whatever, would the lens still fit? Or just the Nikor lens fit?
I'm thinking about buying new lens but also don't know which lens to get.
My budget would be ~400?

I sell them either through craigslist or the Canon camera forums (photography-on-the.net/forums)
ebay is another option, but I don't ebay.
Yes, the lens that fits on your d40 will fit on the d90 as well as any other Nikon camera made after 1970's I believe.
(sorry, I'm a Canon user)

Regarding the new lens, the first question is what lens(es) do you have now and secondly, why do you feel like it's restrictive to what you want to shoot?
If you have a hard time answering the second question, I'd say what you have now is good enough for now.

Do fall into the trap of buying new gear just for the sake of it because bottom line, you'll be wasting your money.

Stating your budget for a new lens purchase is fine, but without knowing what things you shoot, what lenses you have already, and why you feel restricted with your current lens... I would say that you figure those out before you invest in a new lens.

Do fall into the trap of buying new gear just for the sake of it because bottom line, you'll be wasting your money.

Ah, I see. Are your cameras like selling? Cause I would think it would be hard to sell a camera? I see
cameras on ebay all the time and they are kinda selling. . but not? I'm thinking about selling my camera
too, but idk if its safe online even though I buy stuff online.

what lens(es) do you have now I have the 18-55MM Nikon lens.
why do you feel like it's restrictive to what you want to shoot? For me, I like SHARP images,
and the lens I have now to me, don't seem sharp to me at all and I was some sharper lens. My aunt
wants me to help takes some photos for her wedding. . I like portraits and landscape mostly, sometimes macro
but rarely.

I've sold close to $1500 of gear using craigslist and the canon forum. They were sold fairly quickly (within a week) if you have an attractive price or something else that entices someone to buy your equipment.

Ok, makes more sense.
I'm going to put my flame suit on before I say this but sharpness has more to do with shutter speed/camera shake, whether you shoot JPEG or RAW & post production, user technique, than the actual lens itself.

Although no one would argue that the Nikon 18-55 kit lens does not produce a better image than say a $1.5K Zeiss or $5K Leica lens, the things I mentioned above cost you nothing and will not only provide you with sharper photos, but better coloring and contrast that gives your interesting photos that extra pop. I used to shoot in JPEG and now shoot EVERYTHING in RAW because it gives me the ultimate flexibility to produce the photo I imagined.
Shooting in RAW will allow you to adjust the photo and not only make the colors better, but you can make sharp until your eyes bleed.

I'd say you should stick with what you have right now becuase if I had to guess, you're unsure about the exposure triangle and the relationship between shutterspeed/aperture/ISO and proper exposure. Usually most people upgrade because they want a lens that is 'faster' or wanting wider or longer focal length wise. If you were to get something now without understanding why you want it, you'll probably not be satisfied with your purchase.

Shooting weddings are tough! A lot of the time, they are in dimly lit areas, people are moving quickly, the two most important people are wearing all white or all black which throws off not only exposure, but auto focusing has a hard time locking on. I'm going to a friend's wedding tomorrow and shooting (not as the main or paid photographer, just as a hobbyist) and I already know it's going to be quite the challenge, but I'm looking forward to it! (One thing I realized from my other friend's wedding: bring extra of everything if you have it! Extra camera battery, external flash if you have one, and TONS of extra batteries for your flash. My flash lost power at the reception and I was having an extremely hard time shooting in that environment even at f/1.4!)

Anyways, the good thing about your kit lens is that it does everything (portraits, landscape, macro (kinda...)) Unless you really find that the lens is preventing you from taking a good picture of something, stick with it and learn a lot!

THANK YOU! I'm still learning how to use the aperture/shutterspeed. I get ISO but not too much a/s.
& Yes, I usually shoot in JPEG rather than RAW.
:] Thanks for the tips! Show us some the photos from the wedding!!

Some shots from today :

I have a question ~ I'm still trying to figure out manual mode.
Indoors, a lot of times, the lighting looks a bit orange if I try shooting in manual mode. In auto, on the other hand, the color looks fine.
What/how can I change the settings to get the color correct?

Neat pictures!
That sounds strange, but you might have to just set the white balance of the picture manually. I wonder if it keeps a different white balance profile for the manual mode huh.gif

happy.gif this is when its raw ftw and you can adjust the temperature of the raws in photoshop, lightroom, or the software that came with the camera.

Should just be the white balance. White balance doesn't adjust itself unless you put it on auto. It's usually best to set white balance yourself though.

About the D60 buffer...You might want to check, i do think the D60 has a limit on how much it can shoot before it stops (camera mechanism that prevents the sensor from overheating etc.)

i checked online. it says the d90 (your camera) has 4.5 frames per second continuous shooting (buffer: 7 RAW, 25 JPEG fine, 100 JPEG Normal) but the d60 has continuous buffer JPEG: Limited only by storage with only 3 frames per second.

Does this mean the d60 is able to take more continuous shoots? I want to buy the extreme sd card but since the d90 seems to be a better camera overall and you only got r value of around 12, i doubt it'll work on the d60 unless what i read on the website above is correct (that the d60 has a better continuous buffer compared to the d90). what do u think?
Listen to my late night talk.

Ah, I see. Are your cameras like selling? Cause I would think it would be hard to sell a camera? I see

too, but idk if its safe online even though I buy stuff online.

what lens(es) do you have now I have the 18-55MM Nikon lens.
why do you feel like it's restrictive to what you want to shoot? For me, I like SHARP images,

wants me to help takes some photos for her wedding. . I like portraits and landscape mostly, sometimes macro
but rarely.

i have a d60 myself...
i would recommend the sb-400 flash, great combo with the kit lens..
you will see sharp!
or if you dont want a flash but i would rather get the sb-400 is the 35mm f1.8
isnt a bad lens for either landscape // portaits

as for portraits and landscape in general you could use the body upgrade..
some of the wide angle af lenses for dx cameras wont af on the d40, d40x, d60, d5000

for my portraits i use a variety of cameras and lenses..
fujifilm s5pro [better camera than the d300 for portraits no doubt]
d300
d3
from zoom lenses to primes such as the 105mm//135mm f2 dc or 85 f1.4
landscape and hdr
i used the d300 with the mb-d10
11-16mm f2.8 tokina

though im done with nikon with portait photography..
i have sold my d3 and selling the d300 soon..
i have moved on to the sony a-900

Going to my cousin's son's 1st birthday party tomorrow at a park! I can't wait biggrin.gif My mom bought some bubble stuff for the babies to play with, so hopefully I can experiment and get some cool shots.

Got to do a bit of concert photography today. Really enjoyed it! Wish I had a closer zoom though. Have a love/hate relationship with the lighting since it's so pretty sometimes but so inadequate at other times.

i dont know why the last couple pictures seem like something a pedophile would do.
except the last picture.

quoting photo's is against the rules.
And...i guess i would say in the photographers defense, that perhaps it would take a pedophile to notice something like that tongue.gif

I've been waiting and waiting for the E-P1 in white to come out and it's still not out yet but is in Japan... So people are selling them for over a grand when it's worth $800 on eBay sleep.gif
