Your camera.. do you have like exposure compensation? No idea how to use a nikon, but for a canon I hold a button and turn the dial so the arrow is over the center again for the exposure meter. Er that makes no sense. I think its off, whatever it is that you can see to evaluate your shutter speed/aperture is off.

Yes it does. I have it set to default (0). And all the pictures were taken on the P setting (which is like default for the camera). My image effect was set to normal, not vivid/more vivid.

Waa I hate technology sometimes =__=

Picked up the Leica M - Micro 4/3 adapter today. It's kind of a pain to use though -- I'll probably stick to using the kit lens with E-P1 except for special occasions or if I really really want some bokeh on E-P1 photos.

The settings only state that the camera take what it "thinks" is the correct exposure based on it's metering. Depending on your lighting situation and your environment, you have to sometimes use exposure compensation and/or auto exposure lock to compensate. AEL is actually quite useful and once you get a handle of it, it's a godsend when it comes to controlling exposure.

But yeah... in your particular situation, I think its just your computer and/or the software you are using to view your photos. Are you sure you don't have some kind of default preset or filter applied on your picture viewing application?

Just got the Tokina 12-24mm F4, it's so wide... I need to get used to this.

We all wear masks. Everyone, everyday... sometimes we wear them so much, we forget who we really are. And sometimes if we're lucky, someone comes along and shows us who we really want to be, who we should be.

-_-vV

some quick snap shots..

my apartment seemed too empty to i decided to go out and make myself an art canvas..

waiting for my sofa to come this week so i can put up my canvases up..

..

ps.. damn i fail at photoshop making borders..
im missing 1 black border sad.gif
i need flicker, what a shame..

to beginner photographers..

and all you guys buying a dslr they are all good..
even the old bodies work perfectly..
just buy the one your comfortable with..
new tech comes out really fast..
you can always upgrade in the future..
i used a Kodak Professional DCS 660 until it died..
amazing camera no doubt..
its ususally the photographer that makes the magic..

you shouldnt think you cant make nice photos because
you dont have that camera or lens.. its just excuses..
unless if you really want to do that widephoto or telephoto shot..
just slowly upgrade lenses your not going to regret buying within your budget..

and you dont really need that new tech and really expensive the cameras
if your not doing pro work..

@erure : dang nice, it seems fun ..
@jeffy : congrats on the lens hope to see future pics

^ Totally agree with the above and the general point he is trying to make but....

To beginner photographers,

However, there are various reasons why you need better gear as you progress and mature in photography. As much as I hate to hear "better gear automatically equals better results", I just as much hate to hear the other extreme that "its all about the photographer". Better equipment does provide better opportunities and the functionality to achieve them. Photography is about the capture of light. Given the most ideal lighting situations, you can easily take an extraordinary shot with a P&S. Unfortunately, you don't always have the luxury of perfect lighting and environment available to you and the various functions and features of better equipment help to compensate as well as provide new opportunities which couldn't have been had otherwise. In many cases, I would say its physically impossible to get certain effects and shots. This obviously doesn't happen automatically and one needs to truly understand why they would need better and/or additional gear. End of the day, I would suggest that if you're considering "upgrading", you have very specific photographically related reasons for doing so. If you ever debated or considered upgrading your equipment, "know" why you are doing so and not just blindly doing it because its "supposed" to be better. I think its generally safe to say that even the most basic of equipment is "capable" (which I agree most users tend to overlook or misinterpret) but better/advanced equipment buys you the larger window of opportunity to do so (as well as give some additional capabilities... no denying it). It may not be the bang for buck capabilities, but nonetheless they do and can be quite important as your get more experienced.

Gosh thats alot of incamera noise reduction? Quite a soft result? What was the ISO set and the exposure time?

Nice quality pictures, the lighting looks nice.. Although I would have set the time longer (maybe 30 seconds) to capture more movement (since the clouds are just partially blurred in your photos), but that's just personal preference.

Lol is that the moon? It kinda looks like the sun ;D

Not bad biggrin.gif the focus on the building should have been slightly sharper, but keep at it. Keep shooting and sharing laugh.gif

Now I'm inspired to go out and do a little night photo walk hahaha

that tokina 12-24...
is that massive vignetting i see? wat are those dark areas in the corners?

and for exposure compensation...is that only for the automatic modes? I don't really understand why you use it. I'm 98% of the time in full manual

^ The concept of exposure compensation applies to all modes (manual or otherwise). It's basically any exposure setting over/under what you're metering (whether its by the camera or off camera metering). For someone who shoots manual all the time, you would most likely be exposure compensating very frequently (as otherwise manual all the time wouldn't make sense). BUT, in terms of the actual function within the camera, yes, it doesn't apply for full manual in the sense that any exposure compensation is done "manually" in manual mode.

^Correct me if im wrong, but exposure compensation only effect iso (if camera is set on auto iso) when shooting in manual - otherwise it does nothing, where in aperature and shutter mode it effects both the ISO and the automatic settings (if on Aperatur emode, exposure compensation effects that ammount of ISO and shutterspeed used and vice versa)?

^ You are correct. I'm talking about the concept of "exposure compensation" in general (not specifically about the in camera function). The in camera funtion is more like "auto" exposure compensation if you really think about (although its not referred to this way). Sorry, didn't mean to bring more confusion to this.

auto ISO is very useful when shooting events, or scenes with dynamic lighting. i normally leave it on, unless i'm taking a very deliberate shot.
