also that picture of the shoes, i read about how its done it on diyphotography, they used a black straw on the LED to direct the light and painted it, so it wasnt a ring light on the shoe.

$2 white LED flash light. Can't get any cheaper than that.

The D60 doesn't have an internal auto focus, so only lenses with AF-S or any other type of internal focusing mechanism will focus with the D60.

I may have put a foot in my mouth when I said I would get a fast lens for a dongseng for his birthday...
I wonder if he still remembers...

For those pictures did you just use your camera on a tripod and use the flashlight to light up your subjects? If so, that's only practical for inanimate objects.. how can you light up subjects such as people without the SB-600?

I'm sure there are little mods you could do to a flash light to get it to act a little bit like a a camera flash.

I think 35mm f/1.8 but I'm not sure.

and 1st prize gets $1K in photography equipment (whatever that means)
but they also publish them in a book and send them out to clients.
I don't know if you guys remember my bean pic, but I think it would have a fighting chance.
The only problem is that they would retain all the rights to the photo and would be able to use it at their discretion...
Definately not willing to do that!
I have some other photos I wouldn't mind submitting, but I don't know if they are good enough to be published.
Anybody else been in a photo contest before and have your photos published?

Hyuni- I do remember that awesome shot of the bean...how much do you think your shot is worth? I mean, $1k is a lot (at least I think it is), I'm not sure how much cool shots usually sell for but IMHO it's a great deal (if your shot wins).
And...urm I'm afraid to share (b/c everyone's really good)...but I think I've improved as far as my photo composition goes. >__<

a couple months ago...

I think I'll just post one for right now ;D
I took this when I was in Gaoxiong, Taiwan. It's actually like a month old. I just decided to do some post processing to bring out the water ripples.
I kinda wish there was a main subject to it though, like a duck or something, but I liked the way the colors came out.

And yes, i think the cheapest prime that works for the D60 is the 35mm. Second place is the 50mm (I think it's 1.8?)

the second girl in that set of pics has a weird facial expression and somewhat of an awkward/unnatural pose
the water ripples look like they've been pp. (not suppose to be that way)

That looks like the 50mm f/1.4 with the hood on backwards.

The 50mm 1.8 won't autofocus on a D60 though. It's not AF-S. Only the 50mm 1.4 AF-S will. So the 35mm 1.8 is the cheapest.
