Haha, i'm a newb. I've just started taking an interest in photography a while ago... i'm using Nikon D70 atm...my dad gave it to me since he is a photographer and he's teaching me stuff on photography...i don't get what he says about lens and stuff sometimes but i think i'm getting the hang of it. I usually take photos with my small Olympus M700 cam hahahaha but now i'm starting to use the D70 alot....=D I have no idea what the lenses my dad gave me are called...=/

Woohoo! I got my nikon d40 yesterday and I wanted to know how you guys learned to take such nice photos...did you guys just play around with the camera for a bit? or did you buy books and read stuff online? i'm so clueless to everything.

ive looked at prices online and ever since the announcement of the 40D, the 30D 'body only' prices have dropped around 150$ already. Do you think there will be another great drop in price online once the 40D is released in mid-septemberish? hmm not sure, but the 40D does seem attractive to me now. but its still like 300$ in price difference between 40D body and 30D body. well.. i think 30D is good enough.

I've heard that the Nikon D40X is good? Please recommend me a Nikon/Canon. I'd appreciate some help thanks.

imo, there will be another drop once people start purchasing 40D instead of 30D, but dont expect as big of a drop as this one since there will also be amateurs with tighter budgets going for 30D.

I was kind of hoping that the rumored 3D was also announced with the 1Ds Mark III and 40D but maybe not... The 5D was announced separately from the other series so maybe next year ;__;

Oh man, nikon announced a D300 and D3 in response to the 40D and junk? Yeesh, the D300 looks very good, (out-specs the 40D in most categories) but I suppose we'll have to wait and see how they perform and what quirks they have in the real world. And then the D3 is just... too far outta my price range to even care.

the list price of the D300 is about $500 over the 40D ($1799 vs 1299). for nikon's sake, i'd hope it outperforms the 40D!!!

I always thought it was 5D against D200/D300... Like 40D can't really compete with D300 (D80 instead is what I thought)... O_O

Did anyone see the lunar eclipse this morning? I saw it and I tried to take pictures of it but failed miserably...lol

minji u need to snap more especially if u want to improve! i havent seen much from u lately! and does anyone have new shots in?? i tested out my 50mm 1.4 and i love the quality. my camera's AF is off @ close range when using the lens.. so i had to use MF and i suck at it

i usually just focus on a point that will AF and recompose my shot. (make sure you AF at a point similar to the distance of the subject you're trying to take pictures of ^^

i was planning on taking pics of the eclipse last night. had my tripod and cable all set up... and then foolishly decided to head out to the bar. needless to say, i plopped on my bed and forgot about the eclipse! last night was a real fun night though... haha
