Does anyone has a XT/XTi 18-55mm kit lens that you don't use anymore and willing to sell it for cheap?
I'm a beginner so I need this lens to learn ^^

Man... the latest instant rebates that Canon announced is really tempting to pick up that 10-22 lens I've been wanting....

Ugh... must ....resist....

How cheap is cheap? You can probably buy the lens online for ~$100. Around here, I've been watching online classifieds and I've seen it go for around $50-70. So you could just keep watching Criagslist or something.

hmm... you might need to wait a little bit to get it at $50. might find more people willing to part with it for 60~65. i sold mine for 55 a couple months ago, and that sold pretty quick.

as for craigslist... test the lens first. some people on craigslist sell duds. or dont tell you important stuff about the lens that they should have told you about.

hehe... this year's rebates are a little weaker than last years. but the 10-22 does look like a nice deal. i was crossing my fingers for a rebate on the 5D, but i guess that's still a dream. i can try to make ends meet by getting the whole set (5D + 24-105 + pixma 9000) for 2900, and sell teh printer/lens... but too much trouble!

but if anyone else is up for it, i'd say do it. sell the lens at 900, the printer at 400, and you get the 5D for ~$1600. that's a steal if you're willing to go through the trouble.

i don't know if buying a 18-55mm kit lens is a good idea.
it's slow and dark.
if you've never used any other lenses, you won't notice it much....

i'd spend 25 more dollars and get a new 50mm f/1.8 lens.
very good for it's price.

Right, right. Still the kit IMHO is well worth its price. You won't be able to get an 18mm focal length for cheaper that that. You'll need it for group shots. Plus the kit will help you find out what kind of things you like to shoot.

Following the 'common wisdom', the 50 1.8 was the first thing I bought after I got my XT. However, despite the super sharp image quality, I don't really use it that much. The 50mm would be great as an everyday lens on a full frame, but I wouldn't even imagine it as my primary lens on an XT.

Plus, as mediocre as the lens is, the kit lens is still capable of taking good pictures... it just needs good light and stepping down.

I've never had the kit lens (I started out with a Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 or something like that) but I kind of wish I had since I've seen lots of decent photos produced by friends who have it. But I love my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM right now <3

i think the kit lens is quite useful because of its 18mm focal length. although i love my 50mm 1.4, like negitoro said, it cant be my primary lens.

i went through a series of changes for my walkaround...
started with the 50/1.8, then went with the 18-55 kit, then the 18-50/2.8 sigma macro, and now the 24-105/4 IS L. while the 50/1.8 is a heck of a lens for under $100, it's not the most convenient. great way to learn composure and how to take creative shots, but personally, there are also times when i just want to take pictures of friends and family havin a great time together. times like that, the 50 simply did not make the cut.

As a friendly reminder, please refrain from using the built-in flash device as much as possible. tongue.gif

Nice test shots. BTW, I like using the built in flash for fill in flash.
