uhh i'd avoid using too much lip balm on your cold sores.
usually you'd want to find a cream or ointment that will dry it up, rather than add moisture.
don't pop it, don't pick it cos you could end up with a nasty scar.
for my cold sores, i use virasolve, but i'm not sure where you can buy it since my mum brings it home from work.
it should go away within a week.
and yeah, they do come back. once you get them, the "virus" stays in your body.

One word. Zovirax.
Works like a dream. If you notice the skin above your lip tingling/itching, put a little on and no coldsore will come up! Put it on a coldsore and it'll go away in a day..
Don't use carmex.
Coldsores aren't the same as dryness

There's a lot of over-the-counter medication--I've tried Carmex and Blistex, and they seem to work. Other than that, honey tea and Vitamin E supplements have helped me a lot.
There are probably more "official", elaborate recipes for honey tea that you can find by googling--my (very lazy, simple) way is taking a tablespoon of raw honey (the kind that's pretty almost in solid form), and adding some ginger powder and boiling water. And I have been known to do it without the ginger when I ran out.

I use to to have a cold sore like two weeks ago, a really bad one on the side of my lip. I used lotion and it didn't work so I just didn't bother with it and eventually it'll go away. If u touch it a lot its going to infect it and it'll take a longer time to shrink. so best thing is to avoid touching it with your fingers
