Well...I'm currently an IB candidate and...I'm falling down the drain like the speed of light. I don't know if I'm going to be able to live because I'm burning hot with a sick-lazy passion. So how do you IB students pass the IB exams. I mean, how did you pull through and how do YOU STUDY! I swear, I'm a senior and going toward college but I have to get the IB diploma! I think I may be dumb for asking this but I admit, I'm not smart BUT that doesn't mean that I'm stupid either. I just don't know how to organize and study...help me...I need advice on how to study for exams and keep my self on track.

The IB coordinator at my school said to me that if I don't get the IB diploma than there is no hope for me to get into a university! Because my grade sucks!

Well, I got my IB diploma. The thing is, colleges do look into AP/IB credits, but they look at SAT, GPA and your essay even more so. I think your IB coordinator is over-dramatic and thinks that if you don't get the IB diploma, you won't accepted into college. Not true. Some of my friends who didn't get the IB diploma got accepted to really good univeristies. Its based on SAT, GPA, AP/IB/honor classes, and your essays. IB credits just gives credit to your general education requirements or you can skip a year literally, depending on the score.

The way to study for IB exams depends on your study habits. I'm not sure how you should study, but sometimes notecards can help. Get a study group with your friends. Don't study the night before. Obviously, you need to study beforehand. I am curious, what exams are you taking, obviously it is history, english, some language either spanish or french or something, sciences, and math right?

Your teachers in your senior year are actually preparing you. You should already started on your oral commentary, your extended essay, your internal assessments and etc., and they would be sent somewhere unknown. CAS should be done as well. Prepare yourself.

Did you apply to colleges already? Well, you should already got your acceptance/rejection letters already.

Good luck on the IB exams. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me.

Well, I'm currently an IB student! haha...NO LIE....IT'S A LOT OF HARD WORK!!!!
Now, my hopes for getting the IB diploma are not very high anymore, BUT the experience will be worth it-(for college)
even if you don't get the IB diploma, there are schools that will accept you just because you went through the hectic process. YOUR IB COORDINATOR SUCKS!!! HE/SHE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING YOU!!! DON'T LISTEN TO HIM/HER. If you really think about it, you only have to score at least a 4 on everything to get your diploma! All I can tell you is that you need to review and study...perhaps you should look at the exams from previous years. Right now, I'm reviewing a lot of the things I learned last year. What classes do you take?
My higher level classes are : English, Chemistry, and American History
My standard level classes are: Psychology, Spanish5, and Calculus
Perhaps, we can help each other. haha....

I'm close to finishing my EE and my IAs and they're suppose to be mailed to the 'World IB Office' this month. My CAS hours are completed. I'll be tesing out of chemistry, english, calculus, history, and dance. And yes, my first oral commentary is already done I just need to do my second one. And trust me...when it comes to study groups, we're a bunch of flunkies because we always slack off to a different direction.

I was wondering...what science did you test out of? IS IT HARD OR EASY?

Agree! Agree! Ib brings out the pain in my backbone!

To be really honest, I slacked off my whole junior year so my grades are horrible! My IB coordinator noticed that and urged me to study hard to get the IB diploma because he knows that UCLA (since that's one of the international neurology base) will certainly not going to admit me with the poor grade I got. And since my SAT scores not that highly-O-mighty, I'm in an even tighter spot!

And darn, so many of my friends are quitting IB just to the heck of it! ph34r.gif

it's kind of inappropriate to move it to the pre-college forum. yeah, U are pre-college, but it's addressed to college students. neways...

bs like mad.
how i studied: for history, i choose like the smallest events and read encyclopedia articles on it. i don't remember too much, but on the test u have to choose two questions out of so quite a few and write about it. if u choose something like the spanish-american war, u have much less to cover than the cold war. plus, encyclopedia articles give it to u straight to the point.

math: do some practice stuff.

english: bs like mad.

physics: be really happy this is multiple choice. look over the ib review sheets.

psychology: bs and read summaries on the topic. ib review sheet for this one too.

french: u just have to know...

i slacked off like crazy in high school. i never took notes so i didn't like already know the stuff on the exam. i hardly studied either. some of the essay answers u just got to know one thing and then really bs. i got 28 points on my exams ( i got 0 points from my ee, cuz it was like only 1000 words of crap dry.gif). out of 17 students, i think 9 out of my class didn't get it. but then again they never should have been in the program.

At my school, 83 percent of us passed and the others, well...they were really close. biggrin.gif I tested out in History, English, Psychology (those were my higher levels), Spanish, Chemistry, and Math (my standard levels), and overall, I got a 30 or something. I don't remember. I got my IB diploma, and I tossed in... my mom's room. Hahaha. I got a B in my EE and an A on my TOK essay.

I think English and History were the easy topics. Spanish was pretty easy too. I didn't like psychology, but I did well in that area. I didn't like chemistry either, and math. Well, let's just say math hates me and I hate math. I thought the science portion was...okay? I mean...it wasn't that hard, and I do enjoy the subject.

Just do a lot of those practice reviews or those packets things. I am sure your teachers have some of those packets.

Right now, you guys think that IB is such a pain, but I don't regret going into the IB program. Its hard work. But, it pays off. You'll see.

That's not true. IB is hard and I know a few people who didn't get IB diploma but they went to college anyways. Getting it would get you ahead in college though, gaining all those credits. I was in all IB classes last year but I wasn't doing the diploma (I tested in a few classes)... Oh well. I'm just glad it's all over with.

getting the IB diploma is pretty easy, in terms of getting the minimum 24(?) points. my school had a pretty decent pass rate this year. i think it was 90 or so percent.

i tested out of HL Bio, Chem, Eng, Hist; SL Math and Spanish.

feel free to ask me questions.

ps: the IB diploma alone might let you get accepted to schools outside of the US, provided that your score is reasonably high (probably at least around 30)

my conselor stated that IB will change in the future meaning that it would be twice as hard. I feel quite sorry for the incoming IB students because they'll have to take AP calculus 3-4 instead of just calculus. US system just doesn't match the out of state like England or so on. Trust me, japan is harder.

By the way, which year did you test out of?

I'm jealous of you because I don't even think my essay scores would be as high. This year is just so packed that I can't get any sleep because our teachers are rushing everyone with practice exams and seriously, they're all due on the same day! I learn nothing because the teachers are going too fast and gave us too much work to even have spare time at home to study! I don't go sleep to until 4 in the morning. Sadly...I only get 1 hour of sleep.

And yes, spanish is easy but I bombed my oral so...I got a 3. I have to make that score up by getting two 7s on two of my exams.

Exactly. My teacher says to apply to China international University but I say no because I don't have the money to go there.

Hey, it will be fine. Just focus on what you learnt in your english and history classes. Those two subjects are the easiest to pass. I don't know if the IB exams will be changing or anything, and I simply...well, I feel bad for my cousin who is in Pre-IB. But, I think she knows what she is doing. biggrin.gif I did horrible on my Chemistry and math portion, but I did well in the other areas. Just work on your essays. Its really important to show the scorers that you do care about the subject and you know a lot about it.

Other than that, if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. I'll be happy to answer them.

IB isn't really that bad. Just make sure you remember what your teachers told you. Write well especially in the Extended Essay and TOK essay. I did prety well. I got a B's on my Extended Essay and TOK. I tested out with HL: English, History & Psychology. While SL was Chem and Math. =3 I got a decent score & got the IB diploma. Even if you don't think you'll get the IB diploma, the whole experience is worth it. My friends who didn't get the diploma are sitting through the general ed classes being bored to tears.

But, don't worry so much about it. A study tip, if you don't like studying in groups. Do practice exams. Your teachers are to provde you previous exams or sample tests that IB world provides for you. And continue on practicing with that. Look through Wikipedia.Org [even though, don't trust it too much] & read information there. You could easily figure out your thesis if anything. I would recommend just doing plenty of pratice tests, until over and over again--you'll get the hang out of it.

Goodluck. =)!!!

I know what your going through...Lucky for me though that I only have the Chem SL test this year. But I'm pretty much going to get a 1 for my Chemistry score, all because of the internal assessment. Stupid teacher won't set aside time to do labs, because I'm one IB student in a class of AP, so I'm pretty much without an internal assessment. Unless someone can hook me up with some labs sweatingbullets.gif ph34r.gif
