with all the awesome emulators/roms out there for practically every system, i really want to play some the "classics" that i never had the chance before.
especially like rpg, adventure, platform games?

btw, i like the really old school stuff:
- contra
- excitebike
- ice climber
- chrono trigger

yes, i know the super popular series - supermario, donkeykong, final fantasy, kirby, zelda, but im requesting for the lesser known ones.

so...can anyone offer me any recommendations? thank you. laugh.gif

Phantasy Star 1-4 (SMS and Genesis consoles): probably one of the most under appreciated rpg series in the old days, it was much more developed than the early Final Fantasy series in every single way.. story line, graphics, gameplay, etc. Too bad the series ended at 4, and the "sequels" being nothing more than an online mmorpg using the same name but having little to do with it.

Crystalis (NES): there's a GBC remake, but its worse. one of SNKs few action rpgs. pretty good for its time

Ys: this one exists for alot of consoles, theres an Ys remake for the PC

Shining Force 1 and 2: fun strategy (or now, tactical) rpg. Both on genesis

Chronicle of the Radia War: Japan only action rpg that was translated. It's game play is very similar to the Mana series. You control one guy and the computer controls an NPC player who's part of the story line and assists you in fighting

Shining Force 1 and 2 !! I still play it on my original Sega Genesis sometimes haha. they made remakes of it though.

Check out Riviera, Yggdra Union, and Tactics Ogre on GBA.

Others...

Lagoon
Super Mario RPG
Whats that game for the SNES with that funny airplane game...Aero Wings or something

terranigma's a very good one.

Secret of Evermore - it's like Secret of Mana with a more... modern twist to it. It's a very fun game though.

Illusion of Gaia - Action RPG, pseudo-preqeul to Terranigma.

i agree to Korowa's suggestion to terranigma.
i also agree to Range's suggestion to shining force series and phantasy star series

i absolutely LOVED phantasy star 4. one of my favorite part of that game is the macro function. you dont have to use a weighted item on your button (and on turbo) to accept the cursor on fight. only once in awhile (dont tell me i'm the only one who does this when leveling up characters tongue.gif ) but also, with the right combination and timing of the character's spells, you can create combination spells.

for the sf series, i also have shining force cd for my sega cd. i love the characters, but it's not walking around and finding items like 1&2.

you should also try Tales of phantasia and seiken densetsu 3 (aka secret of mana 2)
if you like the action/fighting game, try the streets of rage series.

zomg, you played PS as well w00t.gif w00t.gif

hmm since she's getting into it. I actually reccomend starting the series off at 4, then playing 2 and 1 (but not 3). the first two PS were very tedious in grinding. four was alot easier. I started off at 2, then 4, and went back to 1. it was kinda cool. like watching the Star wars episode series.. where you know what will happen, but is fun because you're experiencing the past.

UNIRACERS!! For the SNES!

Aw man, I used to play that game constantly at my grandma's house (because, yes, my grandmother is an oldschool gamer. laugh.gif ) I can't find it though... <<; Have to check ebay to get myself a copy. ^^; Me and my siblings used to be obsessed, hah hah.
I was gonna say Excitebike too but that was already named. smile.gif

Can't go wrong with Pokemon for GBA.

Try out Golden Sun also if you never played it.

I don't know if it was popular or not but I thought Tales of Phantasia was pretty good.

Since most of the main ones have already been listed, I'll add one that you will love if you even have remote interest in games.
SNES - Earthbound. This is a must. A MUST. I kept the original cartridge (even though I sold my SNES a long time ago).

It's a quirky RPG set in modern (well, it was modern) times with a great sense of humor. Awesome gameplay, too. Trust me, you'll love it.
By the by, the main character of the game is Ness, whom you might know from the Super Smash Bros. franchise. (my favorite character on SSB, too. Ahaha)
Grip me with your eyes.
