Ok, so I want to buy a Japanese cell phone that I can use here in the U.S.

Actually you can buy on ebay and use it. It just depends what service you use, any unlocked phone with a sim card is usable.
Currently my phone is a JP phone and i'm using here with t-mobile.

Alot of phones you can use, as long its GSM and unlockable. 904sh isn't unlockable STILL and probably won't be!

that's not true. there are unlocked gsm japanese phones which can be used is the US.

you can try to ebay a sharp phone or try to find them on internet sites like plemix and mobilebee

They have a pretty intensive list of cellphones from Korea and Japan you can get. They're very costly, but if you use GSM, more likely than not, you could probably use them.

depends on what kinda network the cell phone is on.
if its on 3g then no. you cant use it

if it has no sim card slot? (gsm phone)
then no you cant use it

i have a vodafone 703shf, it was unlocked when i bought it.
they tend to have a shipment of unlocked japanese phones during the summer.
if you bought the phone in japan, you have to open a line to in order to buy, or else they don't let you buy it.
its like illegal or something...
