Introduction
Anne of Green Gables is the first film in a trilogy of movies based on the titular character. In 1987 the films' sequel, Anne of Avonlea, was released. (It was subsequently retitled Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel on home video.) In 2000 the final movie, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, was aired. The final film did not receive the same critical praise as the first two films because it passed over Rilla of Ingleside - the corresponding Anne novel - in favor of a plot not featured in Montgomery's series (although it was based on one of her books).

The first two Anne films generated a spin-off television series that aired from 1989 to 1996. The Road to Avonlea series featured characters and episodes from several of Montgomery's books. Anne herself did not appear in the episodes, but Gilbert Blythe, Marilla Cuthbert, and other characters from the Anne books were included

1985: Anne of Green Gables - a highly acclaimed made for television 3 hour television mini series, it was directed by Kevin Sullivan with Megan Follows as Anne.
1987: Anne of Avonlea, a sequel to the 1985 film which was subsequently retitled Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel (in the US) on video.
2000: Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story was an original film that was not based upon the novels.

Anne of Green Gables (1985 film)
http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r257/ja...ll3_800x600.jpg
At the turn of the century on Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla decide to take on an orphan boy as help for their farm. But they get an unexpected jolt when they're mistakenly sent a girl instead: Anne Shirley. Anne's a dreamer with an unusual point of view, far removed from Marilla's pragmatic ways, and it's only on trial that Marilla agrees to keep Anne...if Anne can keep out of trouble, only Anne has a positive genius for it. As Anne falls into a series of scrapes (and off a roof), makes a bosom friend, searches (and finds) several kindred spirits, Matthew and Marilla discover that their lives have become a great deal richer, now that Anne is at Green Gables.

Anne of Green Gables~ The Sequel (1987)

Anne Shirley, now a schoolteacher, has begun writing stories and collecting rejection slips. She makes the acquaintance of a handsome, rich, bachelor, chases a cow, and wins (to her chagrin) a baking soda company's writing contest. She acts as Diana's maid of honor, and refuses Gilbert Blythe's marriage proposal; which sends her to teach Kingsport Ladies' College, an exclusive girls school, where she meets opposition from one of the teachers, Miss Brooke, and the Pringle clan (one of whom is the rich, handsome bachelor). But while Anne enjoys the battle, and the friends she makes, she returns to Avonlea.

Anne of Green Gables~The Continuing Story (2000)
http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r257/ja...ll4_800x600.jpg
Set years after her resignation and return from Kingsport Ladies' College, Anne is persuaded to join her fiance, Gilbert, in New York City as he begins his tenure at a major hospital. She is introduced to a publishing firm in the hope of a chance to get published and achieve the same success as Gilbert. Instead, both face the disillusioning realities of their professions which makes them decide to return to Avonlea. However any chance of lasting happiness is dashed when Gilbert decides to bow to social pressure and enlist to serve in The Great War in Europe. Anne stays behind and becomes a published writer, but learns that contact has been lost with Gilbert. Seeing no other option, Anne decides to venture to Europe herself to find him. In doing so, she begins an adventure that would challenge her wits and imagination to the limit.

Hey, thanks! ^^

Yeah, that last one was horrible. I don't know if they dropped some of the writers/producers or what... but it was awful. I don't even really consider the third movie as part of the series... Hehe, snob... I am.

Funny thing, I used to think Gilbert was the biggest weenie but further into the series, I was totally gushing over him and wishing I had a Gilbert.

I love Anne of Green Gables...
This is the book that I can read over and over again....without being bored.
Own the books...but I can't seem to find the movies....
I saw it on TV once in a while but I can't find it at the stores...
Anyone know where I can purchase the movies?

I LOVVVVEEE Anne of Green Gables!

The books and the movies were so touching. But I have to agree, the last movie wasn't so great.
