well i dont know what classes i should sign up for in high school...

i could take all most all honors (matter&energy, english, geometry, u.s history)..

or take some honors some not.

my friend says that all these honors classes are going to be TOO stressful -____-;;? but honestly i dont ** classes right now are too easy. . almost annoying b.c of some of the people in it who think copying from the overhead is too hard.

so what do you guys think would be the best schedule to make?
hmm i'm wondering if there are any other people signing up? & what classes are you taking?

past & present experiences of the classes in high school are appreciated! :]

It depends on several things. How you want to set your schedule up (i.e., the number of periods you want), whether you're up for taking summer school to get ahead, what kind of college you are striving towards and your school's graduation requirements. There's not really an "ideal" route you can take.

If you're a high achiever, then Honors/AP/IB classes are what you're looking for. Start off your High School term with summer school. It'll make the transition easier, and in addition you'll be able to get ahead of most of your classmates while they're having fun.

In your freshman year (depending on how your school's schedule works) you'll want to pick some courses like Honors English, Honors Biology, Geometry - as you stated earlier, a foreign language, Physical Education, and an elective of your choice. Note that my schedule was based on a 6 period system, so it might not accurately depict your school. You can also pick a World History class too.

Summer school again is always welcome. That's what I did and it paid dividends. Since you started taking Honors Bio, English, and Geometry, it should set you up for your AP/IB classes. Depending on how you fare in Biology, and History (optional), you should be heading into AP Biology, AP World/European History. Honors English and Algebra 2 should be your next choices. In this year, you'll start taking a Zero Period. 7 classes a day shouldn't be too difficult if you're not afraid of stress. This year opens up AP Psychology, and other electives that you haven't been able to take. Physical education, blah blah. Like I said before, there's really not ideal way to set up your schedule. It's a matter of how willing you are to work hard.

From here on out, Junior & Senior year are your choices. What classes you choose is going to be out of the norm. I would've posted more information about these two years, since they're pretty essential for University requirements, but that's all I can post for now, but I'll get back to you later if other members don't answer the question first. Hope this helped, but if it didn't, I apologize. Best of luck in High School.

K, so I'm back. In your Junior year, you want to have as many AP/IB courses as you can. It'll be a very stressful year, as not only will you be taking college level classes, keeping your grades up is another thing. Colleges look at this year the most, along with your Sophomore year. As for classes, like I said they're up to you.

As for your Senior year, it might seem like a slack off year, but you still want to keep the AP/IB classes going, while keeping at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA.

well when first coming into highschool you don't won't to start out all with hard classes (which i highly doubt the honors classes are hard) but you should mix honors with regular (easy classes). But as you move up a grade, start taking challenaging classes. For example, my freshmen year i took regular english composition, sophomore year i took english honor, and junior, i'm currently taking AP english...get where i'm going. i don't know, i hope the kind of helps you! =)

How likely am I able to waive PE? I'm going to take a foreign language and orchestra all 4 years, which leaves no room to do Health (.5 credits), PE (1.5 credits) and my occupational courses (1 credit). I'm thinking of trying to waive PE, and then doing my occupational credits in senior year (when foreign language is done, because I'll have finished all the available classes by then), and then taking Health online? They can't make me NOT take foreign language+orchestra, right? =(

try half & half
if it's too hard, then drop it, but if you think it's easy, then add more honors next year
try to take up a foreign language, if that language is too difficult for you, you can change it the next year

if you take a language AND 4 years of orchestra, you can usually get a PE waiver for each semester as you have absolutely no time to take a PE class.
i have friends doing that right now. you just need to verify that you're taking all core classes and have no room in your schedule for PE.
orrr you can take a sport after school. that counts too.

counselors can't make you not take foreign languages and orchestra. in fact, most of them encourage it as it shows dedication to that language or instrument.
and they're usually really nice about waivers.
my counselor offered to give me an occupation ed waiver since im taking a full schedule right now and have no room for it. smile.gif

starting freshman year it's important to get a good start for your high school transcript. freshman year you don't really have much of a choice for your classes because you have to fill all the requirements first. the only classes you will actually get to choose are your electives. so for all your base classes you should pick honors or regular based on whether you like that subject or not. so it's not always smart to take all honors classes. but honestly, regular classes can be really slow and in my opinion honors classes aren't that much harder. but don't stress yourself out.

for me, freshman year i moved to another state and i wasn't sure how hard the school would be. so i did not take any honors. and i regret it because all the regular classes were really easy and slow paced. yes, it was a very easy year and i breezed through all the classes with good grades. but colleges are also going to be looking at how many challenging classes you take. in my opinion, it is better to get a B in a harder class than get an A in a regular class. especially for AP classes...

also you should also try to join many clubs and other extra activites since freshman year is a pretty relaxed year and you will have the time. colleges look for the all-around student that has done extra things. it's not all about academics.
