"Until there are some adjustments made in the way that we live as Americans, then the oil industry, and industries like it, are justified in finding and commercializing the resources that support that" (remember, we consume what they provide).
What do you think about this statement? It's economics... and it's the driving force of the movie (Syriana). The deeper question to answer is do you think things will change anytime soon? Is America ready and willing to adjust? Are you? Will we?
ok, i really don't understand the quote. can somebody help me out

basically, companies like those in the oil industry and the like support our way of life in america and because its a way of life here they are justified in doing what they do. they're supplying what we need in order to "survive"
our society and the oil industry are intertwined in a system where one cannot exist without the other. they are both heavily connected. if American's stop using gas then our economy will be effected heavily by it because so much of our personal spending and government spending deals with buying oil. this can effect taxes, inflation, interest rates (among other things).
if you look at many of the oil companies now, they are working hard at trying to find another alternative for fuel because they know what will happen when the last drop of oil drops-they are out of the business and will have no where to go.
we're already at a relatively high level of scarcity of gas in the world and the american society has yet to be overly effected by it. its in the back of most peoples minds and until something big happens where the lives of every human has been effected then nothing will happen. look at all the hybrid cars. most people won't purchase them because they say that there isn't a price different in the long run between buying the car versus paying for more expensive gas. people don't care about the truth of the matter or...at least don't care enough.
sorry if none of this makes sense its kinda an unfiltered rambling. hope it helps.

i know...a lil fruity right? oh wells.
