Does a large quantity in your diet make you tan quicker? Does it contribute more so to freckles/age spots? And makes your skin look dirtier?

I ask this because whenever I have a scab and eat foods with high dose of soy sauce in them the healed skin is darker.

i don't understand, how would soy sauce make you darker? What does it contain that makes your skin absorb it?

Old wives' tale that soy sauce darkens fresh scars. I believe it though.
Once I had a hockey stick slammed in my face in a match and it left two deep scars near my left eye. My mum forbade me from ANY food dark in colour. So basically I lived on real bland and light coloured food for two weeks. I didn't want to take any risks. True enough, my scars are almost non-existant.

And yup carrots and oranges contain beta carotene. It's good but too much of it isn't, and it does colour your skin if you take too much.

yeah I don't see how it'll have any effect on your skin...but it's not the best for your health considering it's high sodium content rolleyes.gif

This reminds me of a scene from the movie Saving Face. (GREAT movie) The mom is eating dinner at her Asian-American daughter's house and the daughter's black friend joins them for dinner. The black guy unknowingly insults the mom's cooking by dousing everything in his bowl with soy sauce. The mom takes the soy sauce away from her daughter's side of the table and puts it closer to the black friend. The mom says to her daughter in Chinese and under her breath, "I shouldn't eat too much soy sauce, otherwise I'll dye my baby black. It's too late for him anyway." Hahaha. It's so completely false and inappropriate, but the line delivery was perfect.

Anyway, I don't think it holds true at all. Why not try an experiment on yourself to be sure? Next time you have a scar, don't eat so much soy sauce and see if it really makes a difference.
