So when I graduated from HS last year I expected College to be awesome. My parents made me attend a community college first since they think 4 year colleges are too much money. So I go to the 1st semester, and it sucked ASS ... so boring ... everyone says college is a time you'll remember forever, I just struggled to stay awake let a lone enjoy it. No one talks so it's really hard t make friends, and 1/2 the people in my class I wouldn't want to be friends with anyways ... I mean I had about 5 mothers in my classes. mellow.gif

Seriously College Is Overrated.

So Yeah I'm going to take a TESL Certificate program now.. Much better.

College is better than HS for me, I get to know more people from college and learned a lot from them, I think you haven't found the right group of people to hang out with. Or may be community colleges are different then University, once you get a chance to go to University, you might find it different.

College is totally not overrated.
I blame your parents for making you go to a CC, and giving you such a lame time. Not that CC are bad, but it really depends which CC you go to. Just because your school sucks doesn't mean other schools suck as well.
I suggest you try to find a way to get out so you can transfer somewhere else, and cost shouldn't be a factor.. well it is though. but you can always try getting financial aide!

honestly, you cannot equate the experience of being at a CC with that of a full-fledged university.

perhaps that sounds elitist, but there are many more things that a university can offer you, in terms of campus life, etc that a CC cannot.

I love college. I love it way more than high school. It's a whole new experience in life. and I agree with most people here so far, that community college cannot compare to an actual college. You don't even really have a campus for a community college right? Living on campus is a great experience too! The people in college are , in general, more mature than those in high school (gosh, I'm so glad I don't have to deal with high school drama anymore!!) Even though classes are boring, I do enjoy going to them and maybe I'm just a big nerd but I like having work to do....

wrt to bang for the buck? sure it is overrated for most people -- best to get a "quality" education for the least amount of expense possible

Maybe you mean the College Experience is overrated. College in of itself is not. People won't hire you if you don't show some sort of post secondary education. If you feel community college isn't for you, start preparing transfer documents as soon as possible and find your way into a four year college.

maybe living on campus does make a difference, but yeah my parents said i have to complete 2 years of CC in full before they'd even think of a University. & well I don't think I could move on campus now anyways because of the fact that I am married now, & my husband and I are looking for Apts. Never heard of a married woman on campus before & I don't think it's really possible to have a job [need to pay Apt fees, Car payments, Food, Cost of living ...]

I stayed at my friends dorm in UMASS Amhearst for 3 night though. & I found it kindda boring anyways. The room was not that nice & the bathrooms were discusting >.< She says it was because I came finals week. But IDK mellow.gif I just kindda miss HS! Haha I had wayy more friends.

If you're married and an 'adult'..why does it matter whether you get your parent's 'permission' for college or not??

i know exactly what you're talking about..i've been in 2 community colleges already because of expenses, and it seems like everyone wants to just get the work done with and go home. i did get to know one person, but everyone else just seemed like they stuck with their friends probably from highschool. btw, if you graduate from a community college do you know what kinda jobs we could get with that kind of degree?

I've actually heard from my friends who attend community college that it's super boring, so maybe it's a CC thing? I don't live on campus on my university, but I find it to be really exciting anyway and I've met quite a few people here. tongue.gif

It is definitely because you're attending a CC. A university has so much to offer! And being married or having your own family while going to college wouldn't be so fun, I guess. (I'm assuming that people can be more "carefree" if they're not married. Not having to worry about staying close to your husband, care for your kids, bills.. etc. etc.)
you can pm me if you have any questions.

If you have just an A.A. from a community college, obviously one won't be able to compete for those jobs where the employer wants someone with a B.A.

Depends on what career .. you can't be a lawyer or doctor haha. I'm going to be an ESL tacher. An A.A is enough for that. Heck even a certificate is enough for most schools in the U.S and overseas.

I think you're all right that it's a CC thing. Damn CC's!! D: ... Hmm .... yeah idk I'm going to do the certificate program in the Spring. But maybe I'll stick it out for one more semester in the fall. Then try and transfer somewhere else. Even though I'm married my parents said they'd pay for the college, and even though they said 2 years in CC ... maybe if I transfer they'll let me go after one.

college while commuting home is like highschool.
you get what you pay for when attending a community college.
everyone judges college by their own criteria, which may be different from others.therefore it's hard to say whether college is overrated or not.
my college experience is awesome because i'm away, and i live 3 minutes away from class.
