So, I was wondering what is your opinion to these two questions here:
1.Britain decolonized peacefully during the decades after World War II and it's no longer a world superpower. Why do you think it was able to peacefully lose its hegemony?
2.Will the US be forfeit its superpower status as peacefully? Why or why not?

For the first question, I believe that there were numerous problems for the prime ministers handle their domestic problems which was overshadowed by their foreign policies problems. So in order for them to create a welfare state and to focus on their domestic issues, they have to allow their colonies to gain independence.

For the second question, I believe the US would'nt forfeit its superpower status peacefully because the government alway want to protect their interests no matter so by being a superpower nation it would allow the US to spread its influence around the world and to keep our standard of living intact.

So, those were my opinions! So, what are your opinions and is there anything I shoulf alter abouy my opinions or add to it?

Isn't it a little bit of a bad comparison considering the U.S. is not really a colonial superpower à la British Empire? (Though we sure do insert ourselves into other countries' business various other ways...) And define peacefully. I do think that you're right about the U.S. not surrendering its power willingly or just sitting back and letting, say, China surpass us in world influence--but I don't think that means we'll go to war with China if Chinese refrigerators become better and cheaper than ours. mellow.gif The main competition the U.S. faces right now that concerns Americans is more economic, though China could raise one hell of a huge army.
Another major difference: WWII affected the U.K. more directly at home than anything the US has experienced lately, so the UK had a lot on its plate right at home even without colonial problems.

Personally, I think the U.S. needs to emphasize earning back respect by rebuilding a lot of damaged foreign relations instead of concentrating on pushing the U.S. agenda virtually unilaterally and flexing its biceps to cow everyone else into agreeing the U.S. is the most powerful and influential nation.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!
