As mentioned, there are some forms that you have to fill out and get signed. For our CAS portfolios, we were provided a binder and plastic protective sheet covers for the forms. We also had to provide some pictures or any other...souvenior, I guess, from the activity. We had a CAS portfolio party after school where everyone just worked on their portfolios and filled out paperwork. Haha! It was pretty fun and it was just like another hang out with friends. And it's a good way to motivate each other to get them done!!

Has anyone here taken AP tests with IB classes? How did it go?

Also, all this talk about CAS is scaring me... Especially since I'm also doing honor society next year... Can you count some of the honor society stuff as part of CAS?

Oh! one more question. how is the weighted GPA calculated with IB? If it's different with each school, how do UC colleges calculate weighted GPA?

@ fireko: I`ve taken AP + IB exams. I only had 2 AP`s to take, so I guess it`s just another two exams added onto my list.. The problem with taking both AP & IB exams is that sometimes the AP exam times interfere with the IB exam times.. And you`ll take that AP exam at a later day. I took my AP Calculus exam late. The first AP exam & the late version of that exam will be different. :S And CAS isn`t really that hard.. it`s just finding the time to do your CAS hours. In the end of your CAS, all you`re really doing is filling out forms, making sure you have enough hours and writing reflections. It depends on your honor society if you can get CAS hours.. depending on what it is that you do, and if you`re doing anything in the honor society that will give you Creative, Action or Service hours. GPA with IB is calculated differently within each school.. Mine IB classes`s grade points were counted the same as AP classes, which was: A = 6, B = 5, C = 4.. etc. UC actually has their way of calculated the GPA on their freshman application.

@ Eternalx: Yes, you are seeing what you are seeing, unfortunately. :(

omg thanks for this reply!! <3

yeah, i heard that the IB and AP tests conflict each other a lot... but there are always those alternative dates to take them. i have a friend who had other tests on the alternative date too, and she actually found a third alternative date to take her test in. so they're different for each date? are they like harder or anything like that? when you took the two tests which one did u think was harder or do they kind of fall along the same lines?

do you know how UC calculates the GPA of the freshman applicants? or if you don't do you know a way i can find out?

@ jae+ut4eva: Freshman year was pretty easy, IMO. It`s just a new experience in your high school & new to your classes.. It`s more like PRE-IB. IB pressure didn`t start for me until Junior year, where you actually start your actual IB classes. You should try to enjoy your freshman year, but also remember to work hard, maintain good grades. You`ll miss the light load of work in your pre-IB years when you get to your actual IB classes Junior year. Freshman year is also the best year to do your required service learning hours (that are required to graduate), so that they are out of the way and you don`t have to worry about them later on.

@ fireko: I`m not sure how many alternative dates there are for each exam.. I guess it depends on your IB exam schedule. Which two exams are you comparing? The original AP exam vs. the late one, or the IB vs the AP? o-o If you`re comparing the two APs, I t think they`re pretty much the same. I only know that they`re pretty similar Collegeboard posts up the free-responses for the APs on their website after the exam date. My teacher gave the IB students that missed the first exam, a copy of the first exam`s free-response.. I actually thought the first exam`s FR was easier than the one I took (late exam). If you`re comparing IB vs. AP.. you can`t really compare it because the exams are somewhat different from each other, the structure of the exam and the test material itself.

I think this is the way that UC calculates their GPA, in their website here.

ahh... really? that makes the next two years a lot more relaxing. yea it is PRE-IB for now. i still can't help but have this feeling in my stomach just hearing it. i'm really gonna try hard to keep my grades up and the CAS hours? i heard you're not allowed to do them till you actually get to your junior and senior year. is that not true? thanks for your help ^^

It`s true. n_n Your CAS hours don`t count unless they`re done in your junior and senior year. >.< Best to do them in your Junior year or the summer before Senior year so that you don`t have to worry about how many hours you have left to do during Senior year.

I just graduated Pre-IB. tongue.gif
Moving up to the real IB now. Not excited for the work though. o_O
I heard IB Social Anthropology was pretty fun. But then again, I guess depending on what kind of teacher you get it makes a big difference.

^ I kind of wish I had pre-ib xD
It's summer, and it's going to be my second year in ib. Did anyone ever take visual arts? That class really, really confuses me, the art teacher's not really great :/

So you're a senior now? You mean IB 2D Art right? I took it. =) I thought it was quite fun. I am a horrible artist but I love the class nonetheless. Putting together my portfolio and the art exhibit for the exam was sooo fun! I wish I was actually good at art though.
Let me know when the sky falls down so I can catch it.

I just realized this thread existed...after completing IB. Oh well.
I took HL English, HL History, HL Biology, SL Chemistry, SL Math, and SL French. I hated IB and thought it was uselessly hard as people get into really good universities etc. doing well in academic courses. Hopefully IB will become useful this fall when I'm actually in university though and make it easier for me.
And oh god...IB marks today..except I don't know what my personal code is? AHHHHHHH. I hope I did well.
