Verizon Wireless today announced the availability of the Samsung SCH-U740 from - a slim and sleek messaging device with a dual-hinge. The handset's unique design allows for communications options both vertically and horizontally with its full QWERTY keyboard.

Text enthusiasts can open the phone horizontally to find a full QWERTY keyboard at their fingertips for ease of use in text messaging and email using Wireless Sync, Verizon Wireless' proprietary email solution. With Wireless Sync, customers can synchronize the SCH-U740 with a home or office PC for easy access to their new email, calendar, contacts and task information.

Open the flip vertically and the SCH-U740 is a thin clamshell phone with a 1.3-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth capabilities, microSD card slot and extensive voice commands. The SCH-U740 also features a 2.2-inch, 176 x 220 px TFT display. Other key features include:

- 1.3-megapixel digital camera with flash and camcorder
- VCAST Music - download songs over the air or transfer your own music collection onto removable microSD memory cards
- VCAST Video - download or stream video clips from the best names in news, sports, entertainment and more

- Mobile Web 2.0-capable - customizable, enhanced wireless access to the latest in news, sports, weather and more
- Instant Messaging using AIM, MSN, Yahoo

Verizon is trying to get people to sign up their service with these new phones, but I really hate the interface menu. It's just hideous.

I know right !? I was gonna get the KRZR from Verizon, but the menu was so .. uuhh . So I ended up getting the Chocolate . -___________________________-;; & I want this one now ! =D

Only if Samsung phones were customizable like Motorola phones, the read menu would be gone!

Looks like a good phone, but the only way to use all of those functions is to pay for the expensive plan. Not worth it IMO.

We're not talking about the color -- we're talking about the overall ugliness of the menu itself.
