I'm in the same situation for stat! Although it's not because the previous teacher is retired. One of the stat teachers used to teach a lot of stat classes, but she got tired of teaching seniors all day long. So now my current teacher is teaching stat. He's nice and all but he doesn't really know what he's talking about half of th time. I've been using CliffsAP Statistics to help me out. It's pretty good but just yesterday, I discovered a printing mistake in the practice problem section. But I guess it's not a huge deal... The explanations and graphs in this book are very helpful. I strongly recommend getting Cliffs. You can also try Barron's. I heard it's pretty good too. But Barron's use more examples instead of words to explain things.

I'm also taking AP chem this year. I'm using Barron's for chem. I like their summaries and practice problems. I know a lot of people say that getting PR is better because Barron's over-prepares you. But my class is hard and the Barron's book is at the right level for me. So I guess it depends on how hard your teacher is.

Thanks. I think I will need Barron's for my Chem AP class. My Chem AP teacher has thought it for like 15+ years or about there. She is like the hardest teacher in my whole school.
She makes all her test and quizzes based off of old ap chem questions. I am dying in there. ><

I know how you feel. My AP US history teacher does that too... T.T
And my AP Bio teacher...

And some questions that come with the textbook of course.

I'm taking an AP Psychology class this year, and my teacher is a History teacher who normally teachers regular/average classes, as opposed to advanced/honors/AP classes.

The department chairman made her teach the course, and last year was her first year teaching it.

A few people dropped the class in the first week, luckily. I figured it would be an easy grade.

I was wrong.

She can't teach the course to save her life. I feel like we're in a regular class. She needs experience teaching advanced/AP classes =/
Ugh. We're all going to fail the AP exam.

I suffered through the crappiest AP English (language & composition) teacher ... if I could, I would run back and take some other course :\ it was not worth it and I ended up getting a 3 with my own 'knowledge'. :\ But that is also because I used my bitterness towards my teacher as an excuse to not study by myself to get a better grade ... so yeah... if you want to stay in the class, rely on yourself even more than AP already requires you to. x:

Sophomore - AP Art History - I don't know, I feel like our teacher gave up on our class. Nobody passed. Even those who studied. I liked the subject though.

Junior - AP US History: This teacher had a Masters in history and had been teaching for decades (he's old, lol). I'd have to say my 3 on the AP test was due to my complete lack of studying. john tesh.
AP English Language and Comp.: This teacher was working on his Masters (and got it) when he was teaching us. I feel like I completely misread the passages on the test. FAILED. john tesh john tesh john tesh john tesh.
AP 2D Art: This was so goddamned easy. 5. But I was the only one to do so...? I pulled the concentration statement out of my ass in the few weeks before it was due.

Senior - AP Biology: I like it so far, I did well in regular bio, but what about the AP test....?
AP Psychology: Fun class, a guy who barely passed the class got a 5. It's been just notes, notes, notes, flashcards, project, etc., so far. But other people who did the work DIDN'T get a 5?
AP English Literature: I like it so far, but I wished the teacher helped us out on personal statements like the other teacher. Damn. That and he likes to keep about three projects going on at the same time.

Note: I go to a sad school. Where half the people drop out or go to an even crappier school to get their easy credits and the other half go to college and a few go to UCs.

Physics C definitely kicking my ass, too.

I hope there's a good tutoring website because my teacher doesn't teach anything! like my ap chem teacher...but chem is so much easier to self study sleep.gif

Here's a AP Chem tutorial website that helped me a lot last year if anyone is having problems studying

^ Thanks for the site, I'm going to check it out and see if it'll help me or not :]

I've been doing much better in AP chem and raised my average test score to an A finally but I know I'll definitely need more help as the topics get harder. Can you believe that we only just started learning new stuff last week? We spent way too much time on reviewing stuff from last year. AP Chem is the only AP exam I have to worry about because my other AP classes are either easy or I have my dual college credit to back me up, haha.

I have a couple of questions: do you/will you actually complete all of the AP labs in your class? & does anyone have any tips for AP chem?

I feel so stupid to sign up for 5 AP's this year...AP American, Spanish, bio, english, and calculus.. and im dying here, especially bio, my bio grade is gonna drop my overall average sooo much. with the grade ill drop from a 90 something to probably the low 80s T.T. and the worst part is that it's gonna be counted twice!! cause i have it double period. Everyday im like bashing my head against the table and studying for AP bio...but it doesn't work. And now failing a test is nothing unusual. I do it all the time. I feel soo happy if i get an 80 on any one of my tests. its not a surprise for me.

I had night labs for AP Chem and bsed half of my labs because my labs were so darn tedious. I honestly didn't find the labs helpful at all, though.
My tip is DO YOUR HOMEWORK and follow the pace of the curriculum. If you don't get something, either ask the teacher or look around online for tutorial.
Also, try memorizing chemical equations (especially acid/base and redox equations). They help a lot.

I kinda screwed around too much but barely managed to pull an A and a 5 because of my cramming; I definitely do not recommend that.

We don't even have time to do labs.
She just gives us the info and we have to do lab reports & write the info into our lab notebooks.
The handout she gives are super long.

AP Statistics is a joke in my school now because our new teacher doesn't know crap.

I think AP Statistics is a joke in general..Regardless of the teacher or not LOL

For me, AP classes don't take up TOO much time. I just procrastinate too much. Most high school APs (at least the schools around my area) AP isn't really college-leveled. The work load is still the same as any other high school class. Material is probably just a little more dense.

One exceptionn at my school. AP Art History. I really enjoyed that class >_> but the workload was death. ):

ap stats makes me want to mentally die~ my grade has been dropping at a rapid rate Dx it's only been about 2 months and i'm already down to a B-. why??! why must it be so hard?! ;_;

i knowwwww. my grade is just dying. lol

I hate my teacher. She teachers straight from the book, and doesn't know crap about stats. She just reads from the book, and I'm sitting there thinking, you know I can do this at home. I'm here so you can simplify this crap down and explain it to me. I can read at home by myself.

T_T' Our teacher makes us stay afterschool from 1:50-6:00 to do our labs. If we don't finish during that time period, we have to come in during lunch/after school to finish. And there is a certain amount of time you have to complete your lab

But well i haven't taken bio since uh advanced bio in 9th grade?
and now im a senior so it has been a LONG TIME. I dont remember
a thing, so it's basically all new for me.
When the year first started I was pretty good on studying
for bio, but yea its 12:54am and i have a bio test tomorrow
that i barely studied like 20 mins for, I always pull a 85 though =/
I don't know it's just like memorization can't say anything

haha, thanks for the advice and info.
ap chem sucks, i fear for the exam because this is the first year my school has AP chem, it used to be college chem until we got a new teacher and then the community college wouldn't give college credit because the teacher didn't have a master's in chem and therefore, did not qualify for it *sigh*
life would be so much easier if it were dual-credit course

we've done like 3 labs in the past couple of months?

Study skills sleep.gif oh how I lack this.

All I do is retake my notes and read them.
And then try to ask myself what I just read.

Any body have good study advice/tips they'd like to share for
APUSH?
