Can anyone give me study tips for AP Biology? My AP Biology class at my school is REALLY HARD. Even the smartest kids fail there, no joke.

I don't read the chapters because they're VERY long (around 20~30 pages) and I don't have time so I usually read through my lecture notes, outlines online, and a study guide packet. PLEASE HELP! Either they don't help enough or I'm not able to memorize everything. I really have trouble memorizing science terms and functions. It's just too overwhelming. Thank you.

It's okay. I'm in AP Bio too, so I share the toughness. Haha, my book's actually open right next to me and I've been staring at it for a few hours trying to comprehend what it says.

You could skim the book (like all the bold words) and then go back and read the whole thing. Usually, lecture notes don't cover the whole chapter, so if your teacher tests the whole chapter, then that's probably why.
Memorizing is really hard, but the best thing to do is to not listen to music or watch tv while doing it. Go to the library, and don't go on the internet there! tongue.gif

Hope this helped. (:
(I should get off of Soompi and start reading. -.-)

Any tips for ap world history?
and this isn't for ap, but does anybody know any good chemistry books or websites that explain how to name compounds (ionic, molecular, acid) and write them? I can write molecular but not ionic and my teacher's a terrible teacher sad.gif I was thinking about borrowing the chemistry book for dummies but I wanted some suggestions.

I just started AP US history D:

Any tips? I recently bought the AMSCO book for APUSH because a lot of people recommended it, and as stupid as this question might sound...

how do you use this kind of study books? lol, blush.gif I mean, I know it's to study for AP tests of course, but is it helpful if I don't get what I'm reading in the textbook? Or does it just only mainly help with AP test guide?

I don't know how I'm going to get through this class...so much essays, things to remember, aah, this class being my first ever AP class doesn't help either. *sigh* Help please? (:

chifuni i'm pretty sure that you have the Campbell/reese ap bio 7th edition, I'm assuming you do, but after each chapter in the book, it gives you an outline and the page numbers. There's even a self quiz.
The best thing to do though is to read the chapters though...
What chapter are you guys on? We're reviewing the summer work we did...but we're starting Chapter 3 and 4 next week. We're doing Lab 8 on thursday.

But i really like my bio class. I actually get it (like the hardy weinberg equation) still don't get the gene locus thing...i'll ask my teacher tomorrow.

GOOD LUCK! biggrin.gif

I cannot stress enough how important barron's is. (:

So, If I by barrons for AP Cal, which prep book should I buy for APUSH, AP stats, AP gov't, or AP english? Especially for APUSH.
IT'S ALL ABOUT BIG BANG. WELCOME TO THE FANTASTIC WORLD.

Hm, amsco books seem really detailed, I don't know if they'll help that much as study books, but they /are/ a good supplemental source to your school textbook.
I recommend getting AP study books such as Barrons, Kaplan or Princeton Review because they are a lot more helpful in simplifying confusing ideas/events, and they also tell you what you need to know for the AP test. O:

Do you want prep for writing essays, or prep for remembering facts? The Barrons for APUSH mostly focuses on answering short-answer questions and writing essays, but Princeton Review focuses more on the facts for each time period. Hope that helped~

@ everyone:
Does anyone have links to any good AP US History supplemental sites?
Things like lists of all the important Acts, court cases, Presidents, etc.
Or any practice multiple-choice sites?

If you have any helpful APUSH sites, post please~! :]

HELP! I'm failing AP Bio with a 53% right now. I failed all the tests so far (4 in total so far with 44% on each test - WTF?) If I get another 44% on the next test i'm going to email her because I can't get 44% on all my tests? That's just weird... Anyway, my AP Biology chapter exams are REALLY hard... the multiple choice are crazy because my teacher just loves torturing us with the (Both A and cool.gif, (Only A and C), (none) choices.. Just knowing definitions and functions doesn't help me because in order to pass her test, I have to know everything from the back of my mind.

The thing is - I've tried everything. Online tests, online outlines, reading the entire chapter, study guides, memorizing everything, but I have still failed her tests! HELP sad.gif

I hate AP English Literature.
I seriously thought this class was about analyzing literature but so
far we only have 2 quizzes and both are basically on plot details of the book Don Quixote.
I am getting a 43.5% in that class but luckily since he's dropping the lowest quiz
I technically have an 82%.

But still, this makes me so angry because that means I can't screw up
this whole marking period because he's not going to drop 2 quizzes.

have you tried seeing her personally? Maybe you're just a bad test taker?

Ugh. Took my first unit exam. It was torture. Handed in my lab 8 today. We only had a 9 point curve.

Ap bio is hard but i like it. Buttttt right now, we're on chapter 2 or 3 and it's reviewing chem...

I'm taking chem right now and we haven't gone over the covalent/ionic/polar bonds...let alone the periodic table and the anatomy of an atom.

Fml >.>

Any good help books?

Haha, I was there last year. All I can say is to complete as many parts as possible, and don't freak out about completing the entire problem. You can still get a decent/good grade with partial credit. Calc seems hard at first glance, but not too difficult to digest. The passing rate on last year's AP test was reallllly really high.

Anyways I wish I had taken more AP classes this year, my regular classes are boring.

I'm doing pretty bad in AP Biology now =__= and I'm getting worried about the AP exam in May.. Just wondering, if anyone has taken it before, what was your score? My friend got a 1 and another friend received a 2 :[ and is there like, a 40% passing rate?

I took the AP Bio exam last year in '09 and I got a 5. According to the College Board website, there was a 50.8 percent pass rate last year, which is pretty average for an AP class. (Meaning a score of 3, 4 ,5) In all honesty, if you are having trouble with AP Bio right now, in the beginning of the year, you're going to have a much more difficult time later in the year. And you shouldn't care about what your friends got on the test.

My gosh I scored a 52 on my second AP Stats test.

Dag..dag..dag.....It sucks when the teacher is just learning about the subject. Time to bring the book home. English lit is a killer. I had to complete a 32 paged packet yesterday with approximately 108 questions on a 39 chapter book. It took me a total of 7 hours (9:44am-3:40pm) to complete it. But aint no thang but a chicken wang. tongue.gif

I took APUSH last year. My class was soooooo hard. I got a D in the class.

Got a four on the exam. I don't know what that means.

But this year, omg. AP English Lit whatever. It's all about AP Music Composition and Theory. Holy sheet I have no idea whats going on in that class. Again, the class itself is such a b***h, but pretty much everyone gets 5s. Last time they offered the class, there were 22 kids in it right? Everyone got 5s, except for two kids who got 4s. I'm really scared that I'm gonna like, fail the class. Ap tests are after admissions. It could seriously eff up my college stuff.
