I just checked it out after I see this thread. The game sounds awesome. I'm intrigued by the "THOUSANDS of units per side" statement. As a long-time Starcraft fan who enjoys massing up and devising strategies (there's hardly any strategy in Starcraft, imo), this is very tempting. But a las, I only have a lap top for now, and even with your--I assume--robust computer is still lacking to play this game, my wimpy lap top is going to get murdered.
Quick question: can you battle online? Is it even possible? What with so many units and all.
I disabled the dual monitor support and the performance is a lot better. I managed to build 3000+ units yesterday and the gameplay was still pretty smooth. This game is by far more dependent on warfare tactics than just who can micro manage faster. Starcraft is an awesome game but the game is definitely more about who can micro manage faster at the beginning of a game. If you play with good people, you rarely get to the stages of the upper tech builds. Supreme Commander is completely the contrary. As an example, I tried rushing the enemy with 200 tanks and 100 infantry units (no air support). Their base had ~20 or so of anti air and ground turrets and maybe 50 or so ground units. They also had a couple of air units and bombers. I would say in any other game, a mass rush of a large amount of units would overcome an enemy base, especially when you far outnumber them. In SC however, this prooved to be horribly uneffective. I rushed in with all my units and their artillery shells and air units picked off most of my infantry units and a third of my tanks before I got anywhere near their base walls. They continued to pound the remainder of my tanks with artillery, ground turrets, and continued bombing. By the time ALL my units died, I barely took out a couple of their ground units and wall defenses. Barely got to touch any of their buildings or atrtillery units fortified well behind their walls. The point is this game definitely makes you strategize more and involve all elements and types of units. Obviously in my tactic above, I was missing critical air support and anti-air units. Without such support, I was completely helpless. It was amazing how ineffective a "mass rush" technique was; something which would have worked in almost any other rts. This game is awesome.
Supposedly you can play this online, although I haven't tried. The battles are long and I usually like to play out the single player campaigns before attempting to play online.

I loved the game Total Annihilation and this looks very similar, maybe ill check it out.
It's a sequel to Total Annihilation. TA was awesome and this game just about brings everything you wish TA had and more. They had to name the game differently because the developers did not have legal rights to the name (different production studio and "Mad Dog" probably still owns rights to the name "Total Annihilation). However, I believe the core developers are the same people who made TA. If you liked TA, you'll absolutely LOVE this game.

My brother has this game , plays it on low settings cuz it lags too much on medium(9800 pro , 3.0ghz p4, `1gbram).The maps are massssssssssive and the battles are longggggggggggggggggggg
And from what ive heard from Gamespot review on this game , it even brings the most powerful computer down to its knees. Im sure with a few patches this game will run a bit smoother
Hopefully when they release the DirectX 10 component to the game (I hear sometime in March), it will bring some drastic improvements. Obviously this assumes you have a DX10 card. I hear DirectX 10 has the ability to render units once and use them multiple times as opposed to DX9 where each individual unit is rendered seperately. I'm no expert in 3d rendering, but if the above is true, I think it's quite evident for a game like SC where you're managing 1000's of units at a time, this can be extremely beneficial in terms of performance.

Uninstalled until I get new parts. Game nearly tore my comp apart =\
Sorry to hear that...

But yeah, like I said before, the AI requirements this game puts on the CPU is tremendous. I guess all the arguments about multi core gaming not being a mainstream factor any time soon is starting to come to a close. I couldn't possibly imagine playing this game on a single core.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXqiJeus648...er%2Dpreview%2FThe above is a link to a video showing you what 3 strategic nukes (there are various different types of nukes) does to an enemy base. The screenshot is from a far zoomed out view and judging from it, it seems like a relatively large base with 100+ structures. Complete annihilation~!!.. haha. I guess it's hard to tell from the screen cap the actual scale of destruction but let me tell you, it's HUGE. This is the way nukes should be...
