walk!!!! WALK WALK! dont run, run will actually build ur muscles and it'll just tighten them not slim it down! Stretch before you walk so u dont strain yourselves. that's my tip (:

Ehh...People said that running makes your calves/thighs get bigger...
but if you do it in moderation....you'll tighten the fat.

I used to have jiggly thighs and kind of flabby thighs (like just a little bit)
and I just started track for the first week. We were doing conditioning
so it was like 2-3 miles everyday for the first week. I lost all that flab.
Seriously. Hard work though but good thing I'm only in High Jump now.

After you lose some of the fat then you can just "walk" to maintain it.

QUOTE (koreanbaby @ Mar 8 2007, 01:28 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
i watched a beauty show and they said that there are 3 types of legs
1. fatty
2. muscular
3. water

for fatty, you need to lose weight and exercise

for muscular, there is not a whole lot you can do, but tone down the intense work out on the legs, don't wear high heels,
and before you sleep, lift up you legs(90 degrees against the way) and lay on your back for 15-20 minutes. this will prevent muscle building.

for water legs, just lose the water weight. don't eat too much sodium.

Please take note of the above quote. This is very true. If you get your type messed up, you will end up making your calves even bulkier O_O I have always had big calves, then I went to high school and powerwalked A LOT and they got soooooooooooo big and muscular, I stopped wearing skirts for a few years O_O I have been told the only sure fire way to slim down the calve is to lose weight as other things would just tone it up, which doesnt really do much, just makes your bulk more solid tongue.gif I think I might try out stretching though, that sounds like it might work. But the calves is the one of the most awkward places to slim down. Be very careful what you decide to do!!!! Some things might work for others but do the exact opposite to you!!!!

I have huge calves and SKINNY SKINNY ANKLES! I cant wear boots because I look so deformed O_O The boot is like tight round the calve and then u can see its all spacous and its all gathered up down by the ankles O_o I WANT TO WEAR BOOOOOOOTS tears.gif

This is such a helpful thread! I've been wanting to know this for years.
I've never liked my calves >< seems a lot bigger proportionally than the rest of me..
Think it was because of ballet because before that my calves were alright I guess T.T

Definitely going to try stretching morning and night starting from today smile.gif

I feel like there's hope for all of us because girls in Korea have legs like tree trunks in high school and then :::poof:::: somehow during their "beautification project" after graduation they come out with gorgeous skinny legs. It's a miracle and having always had giant calves myself (it's unfair, I'm a white girl, but everyone tells me I have 무다리....really ajjushi legs sad.gif), I'm always asking my Korean girl friends how they did it. Usually they just tell me one thing: calorie restrictive diets....no food and the muscles just melt away.

But, there's also a book that's really popular in Korea that has a ton of leg exercises in it that cater to the typical Korean leg problem, big calves and lack of shape-- depending on leg type, muscular, fatty, or swollen. It's called 다리가 예뻐지는 책 (Make your legs pretty book)

I think that it's available on Gmarket and its a great resource.....but I haven't tried the exercises yet ^^;;;;;;;;;

First you must determine if you have muscles or fat that's causing it to look "pudgy", that's really important to know. That way you know, what excercise or method you should be using to tone them down. Because this was my mistake when I was trying to tone down my thighs, the whole time I thought it was fat, but when I discovered it was muscle, I didn't realize I was only making it bigger by the doing the wrong excercises.

I think you should just ask for professional advice from different gym instructor (not sure if it'll cost you). But it's better than asking us.

i hired a personal trainer for 10x before.. i told him i wanna make my calves look slimmer, n etc. then he told me to stretch everytime before exercising, then run for 30 minutes, n do other exercises. then stretch again. my cousins were surprised when they noticed n told me that my calves got slimmer.. so i think maybe stretching is very important? and running of course.. ^^

I personally have big calves because of a condition I have. I have short akeles tendons on my ankles which caused me to walk tippy toed most my life. I can honnestly say that being tippy toed OR wearing heels often will make you have bigger calves. Stretching helps a lot, walking also. When I was on the swim team, my calves were probably the slimmest...so I definately suggest swimming a mile or two smile.gif

@Ohame I also have skinny ankles! like OMG skinny. I'm a bigger girl so like my hip to ankle ratio is GINORMOUS. I don't think I could ever wear skinny jeans with boots.. I'd look like a bloated cartoon character hehe smile.gif

DUDE, I WANT SKINNY CALVES! T^T I HAVE MAN LEGS! I can definitely advise you to never ever sprint or do any quick motions for a short period of time. My calves went up an inch from soccer. -__- I actually measured it, so I'm not exaggerating. I noticed that the majority of people said stretch, and no negative consequences of this have been mentioned yet, so I guess stretching everyday is essential.I also heard somewhere that lightly massaging your legs after exercising can prevent muscle build up? It's also a fact that exercises involving endurance create slow-twitch muscles (lean muscle). If I notice any change from stretching every day, I'll try to post a picture up!! biggrin.gif

I dont know if this is a fact but i've been stretching my legs for the past 2-3 weeks before i go for my daily run and my calves seem slimmer.
usually when i run, i just get on the treadmill and run XD.
which is not a good thing to do. but i've been stretching my legs before i run and after.

i also gain 3 lbs [because i was kinda skinny] and it doesnt show at all on my calves.my legs look slimmer, not thicker =D

I read somewhere that besides walking a lot, you should massage it regularly too. Exercising without relieving it of tension can cause the muscle to get bigger. That's what my mom always told me haha. smile.gif

i think that's the name for them, lol... calves = lower portion of your legs? i have pudgy calves and i really wanna tone them down for spring/summer skirts and shorts. smile.gif

any good exercises (i know that you have to do cardio and lose weight overall...) specially targeted for that area?

i'd kill for legs like this!

(well, maybe those are a little too skinny for my taste... but yeah, at least they're not pudgy lol)

Hmm.. i heard that wearing high heels help curve ur calves, go jogging, or speed-walk.

Prob power walking..as if you jog or run you might tone and build more muscle. as your body likes to save energy all the time..so when you are exercising and walking optimally you body is actually conserved in energy between you optimal walking speed..so when you walk super slow or start to walk fast and faster you actually start to use more energy

You know how when you sometimes walk faster and faster and there is a point where jogging is actually easier than power walking..that jogging pace is you body trying to conserve the energy your using by changing the way you walk/run......but jogging your taking longer steps which in turn saves some energy...

So by powerwalking or walking at a really face pace and don't break into a run you will be actually using alot of energy, which may help either tone the legs or actually burn the calories and in turn loose weight..

Hope that made some sense. Its a bit muddled...i learn this energy thing like 2 years ago at uni... so yea might not be completely accurate...

Genetics does play a factor, but the issue here is losing overall weight through exercise - because dieting will slow down metabolism, and we don't want that. (Though along the way you may lose something else - just sayin')

true enough, i have a friend who started eating air early this year slimmed down so much that her pants falls off. like literally and she was jeans size 25..

i didnt think that stretching BEFORE jogging was the reason why my calves didnt look any slimmer, will def. try it out!

2PM = 7 ; I'll always be waiting.
