The thing is due to the sheer difficulty level of each language you can say and express alot more with two years of Spanish than you can with two years of Japanese...two years of university Spanish and you will be doing semi-advanced stuff, two years of university Japanese and you'll still be a beginner-low intermediate. etc
oh i dont know~i know a lot of kids who are taking spanish and they dont get anywhere
and i also know kids who took spanish throughout highschool and they suck

also japanese is an easy language to learn if you already know chinese or korean...especially korean...because there are a lot of similar words and pronunciation...chinese helps too because in japanese you have to learn kanji
it realli depends on the person, teacher, and the course
