Do you guys know what foreign language u're gonna take?
I heard some universities don't even require it unsure.gif
I'm a bio/prepharm major. Will it be better to take Spanish ( which I
hate so much and I'm 90% sure I'll get a C or lower), or take
Japanese (which I'm truly interested in and know I can get a B and up
if I keep at it)

Ahhhhhhhh........ THis is driving me crazy crazy.gif
I love college yet hate it!

I'm a biochemistry/Pre-pharm major as well...

I'm pursuing a B.S. biochemistry degree which doesn't require more than two semesters of a foreign language and I have a third semester proficiency in Spanish so yeah...no foreign language classes for me.

Take Spanish, it's easier.
But if you have interest in Japanese, then take that.

Spanish seems easier to me because it shares many cognates with English, and the grammar and sentence structure are very similar. But if you can excel in Japanese, then you should take that. =)
Bye, love.

I already had credit for my Spanish courses from high school. If you are truly interested in Japanese, take that. Spanish will help you later in the future, especially communicating with other people.

If you could, try taking Latin if it is offered. It might help you in medical or pharmacy school. biggrin.gif At least I think so.

There are a few factors you should consider
How many years do you need to fulfill this requirement?

The thing is due to the sheer difficulty level of each language you can say and express alot more with two years of Spanish than you can with two years of Japanese...two years of university Spanish and you will be doing semi-advanced stuff, two years of university Japanese and you'll still be a beginner-low intermediate. etc

But if you are truly interested in Japanese you should do it..everyone and their mama takes Spanish anyways, and if you are not interested in it then it will be harder than any language which you are interested in

oh i dont know~i know a lot of kids who are taking spanish and they dont get anywhere
and i also know kids who took spanish throughout highschool and they suck sleep.gif"

also japanese is an easy language to learn if you already know chinese or korean...especially korean...because there are a lot of similar words and pronunciation...chinese helps too because in japanese you have to learn kanji

it realli depends on the person, teacher, and the course

^ No wonder I sucked in Japanese.

I can't even speak my own native tongue (Korean).

I'm a psych major and I just need one year of foreign language requirement when it's two for others. However, I absolutely love Latin so I'm probably going to pursue it and hopefully minor in it, along with ancient Greek.

I'm also a Psychology major and I have yet to take a language. I'm leaning towards Japanese. I took Spanish in high school and I don't remember half of what I learned because...I have no one to converse in Spanish with. But if I take Japanese, I will be able to practice it with my Japanese friends...so, yeah. xD

I think you should take a language that you know you'll have people to practice with.

I have great interest in Japanese and if I were in your shoes I would probably pick Japanese
But also remember that if you're in the U.S. it's very beneficial to know Spanish especially when you're in the medical field. And i'm not being racist or prejudice cause my spanish teacher from mexico told me that hehe smile.gif

Pick Japanese! :'D

I'm planning on taking Japanese to fulfill my international requirement & Intermediate Chinese for one of my open electives. Screw the other languages~

i HATED my spanish class in high school, but i LOVED it in college (i had to take it for the requirement).
if you've already taken spanish before, i think taking it again in college will be really useful.

but learning japanese sounds fun too

I took Spanish in high school and I hated it after 3 years of taking it. Then I went to college and took Japanese...and it was fun! Though there were a lot of work and memorization...I learned so much! My minor (Teaching English as a Second Language) requires one-year language...so that is why I took Japanese over Spanish, Chinese, German, and French. Plus, I plan to go teach abroad in Japan someday!! smile.gif

However, since you are more interested in Japanese...I suggest that you take it instead of Spanish because you'll be motivated.

So these are your two choices?
Spanish - Hate it. And you will get a C or lower for sure.
Japanese - Interested in it. And you will get a B or higher.

Hmm...
