So my Japanese friends have these nifty little Japanese-English Electronic Dictionaries that they use when they speak to me so they can expand their vocabulary. I heard there are English-Japanese ones and I'm very interested in buying one. So..I need some help.
1.) What kind is good?
2.) What features does it have?
3.) How much is it?
4.) Is it durable?
Thanks for your help!

Ebay can have pretty good deals. I got mine for $189 shipped (with EMS s/h from Japan)...a Sharp PW9900 (or something like that). I'm not sure about specefic features but the dictionary is rather good...includes topics about health, lifestyle, business, other languages (for travel I think...german, spanish, italian, chinese, korean etc).
Battery life is pretty good. I got it around June of last year and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It's fairly durable I'd say but I keep it in a case. A friend of mine has a canon Wordtank which is pretty good...it's functions seem rather similar. A lot of the newer "cool" looking ones have color screens and most have a backlight, which I really wish mine had (but it doesn't). I wasn't looking for anything fancy, just something that would be a good investment and last a long time. I've heard Casio, Canon and Sharp are all pretty good brands. My student teacher for my Japanese class last year had a Seiko one which she said was really junk.
Btw, there are a few posts about this in the Japanese help thread in the general discussion forum. Check waaay back (around june '06)

I actually use my DS for it. There's a "Game" called Kanji sonomama rakubiki jiten, which is basically a japanese - english dictionary and vice versa.
The cool thing about it is, that you have the option of "typing it out" (using a virtual keyboard on the bottom touch screen), or you can write it out. Writing is useful for searching for Kanji. it also has voice, but thats more useful for those learning English rather than vice versa.
Its also cheaper than buying a dedicated electronic dictionary.
