Japanese SFX from the manga are just a figure of art so we doesn't really care if it's there. But when a scanlation site, less than half of them even try to edit the SFX of the manga, simply because they think it's hard, well it is >.< XD I am an editor and editing one SFX is the same as editing a whole 10 pages of manga! Also, talk about SFX on top of the HAIR ph34r.gif And have you guys notice that only Viz media edit the sfx? not even tokyopop edit it! So we have serious issue here, it's not something regular, it's not a regular basis. A manga with just a SFX of (SFX = equals translations whatever) is acceptable, because we the manga lovers doesn't care about SFX. Plus! Japanese SFX looks like a figure of something XD Then what about those people out there who spends hours to clone the SFX and edit it? mellow.gif

Personally, I think SFX aren't even one percent important, we don't really need a text to say that this girl is blushing or whatever, we can see it from her face! and plus, with the expression! blink.gif For the artist and the japanese editor it is easy to edit the SFX since they did it first of all, for us fans editors for fans can't do it over again, because we are trying to draw over something that had already been drawn! >o<

hey... i think sfx is awesome, japan is highly evolved in that sense. do u remember batman? they used to take up entire PAGES on "BOP!"

o yeah and for cleaning pages, seriously why bother? that's how the artist originally intended it to be so ur not really missing out on anything by cleaning it out

Yeah I don't mind when the scanlating team doesn't do anything about the SFX. I can read hiragana and some katakana so I can more or less make sense of what's written, and even then most of the "sounds" can be guessed from the drawings themselves. biggrin.gif

To me, a good scanlation is one that is clean and well-translated. An occasionally, I don't even mind minor English boo-boos, because I just want to read and understand the manga. Ehehe. tongue.gif

uhh..
youre VERY wrong.
ive edited manga before - and some of the sfx is like 'creak' or something, and it'd show just the floor. how do you know the floor is 'creaking' if you don't edit it? and the character suddenly goes like 'what's that!?' - very confusing if you dont edit it. i mean...the 'what's that'...you know he heard something, but heck it could be from the roof or in the room beside him.
