just wondering what exactly it tracks... ip address, registered name on the computer, etc... What exactly does it track? I dunno... kinda feels like an invasion of privacy. I've been visiting the pages of some old high-school acquaintances, and when i found out about the tracker, it felt kinda awkward to go their websites.

Yeah its the time/day stamp IP you connect with and if you're logged into xanga it will show that too.
Your IP, time, date, browser, and sometimes resolution is just about always shown to every page you visit. Click soompi, and they will see that. Its basically to figure out what data to send you so the page will open nicely. Also, they often track referral pages to figure out where you clicked the link at... again thats sent by the browser almost automatically to prevent hijacking pictures and stuff.
The cookie part is where xanga will know who you are when you click their page. Clear your cookies and they will just have an idea of where you're clicking from but won't know where you are.

On xanga you could make yourself "invisible" to the xanga tracker but in return you can't track anyone else visiting your xanga...

invasion of your privacy, but not theirs. i think it's a two-way street.

it's not like i'm hacking into closed xanga pages. They're open, so how can i be invading something that's open??? So.. it's not like they can see my name or something, right? Like, this is... xxx's computer. I know it sounds like i'm overreacting, but there's this one website in particular where we kinda ended our friendship in a bad way, and i don't know; i just began wondering how she's living life.

there are settings in your xanga that will track down your username if you are logged in. (you can shut off this feature in your own settings if this is the case) i dont think xanga explicitly shows your computer information to its members.
