okay..so i think a lot of you guys know about my puppy mochi..the cute little long haired chihuahua..anyways, he's normally a really shy dog. doesnt bark or growl much..even to other dogs, and loves attention from me. well, about a few days ago...

he keeps barking at nothing in particular in my room. but only when i turn off the lights. and he growls at the wall. and when i call his name and tell him to come to me...he does...while whimpering as if he hasnt seen me in days. and i ignored it at first.

but last night, i was watching a movie downstairs with my sis..and i was holding mochi...but he suddenly flies out of my arms and runs upstairs. about 2 minutes later he starts whimpering...then growling...then starts to bark super loud. i go upstairs...except like right when i reach the top of the stairs he stops barking and growls again. by the time i pass my bathroom to get into my room (the door was open) mochi cries super loud like someone hit him (i've only heard him crying like that when my dad accidently kicked him while walking in the kitchen, and when my bf accidently dropped him sleep.gif) and so i run into my room frantically (and my closet light is on so i can see mochi) and he dashes under my bed...but only after i saw him staring at the sky acting like someone was about to hit him. (he was hunched and his ears were back and he was looking up like someone was there) so now he's under the bed...i bend down and start calling his name. he ignores me but starts to growl while looking toward the opening at the end of my bed. (im at the side) i literally scream his name cuz im so frapping scared and he finally looks at me and slowly crawls out while whimpering and making quick glances towards the end of the bed. i take him out and he's shaking. what the hell is happening to my dog? and its funny cuz he only does it at night. when its dark. and when the lights arent on. in my room. im a little freaked out. i slept at 6 in the morning last night TT^TT

somebody please reassure me that nothing is wrong.

but, im a ghost believer. i believe that they exist in our world...so im convinced that i have a ghost following me around. all my friends say weird things happen only when im with them. and my sis tells me that our house was super boring and quiet until i moved in. she says she heard someone walking in my room when i was gone at my bf's house. i thought she was lying until one night i thought i heard it too..then my curtains made noise as if someone walked past it (its not drapes or cloth. but i ignored it..like most people (telling myself im imagining things). but just in case i prayed...i didnt experience anything like that again until now..with my dog. great.
Its so hard to smile when there's nothing to smile about.....SMILE ANYWAY. =)

DDONG!

yeah, that happened to my dog too. my dad told me that they have some kind of sixth sense that can sense ghosts when they behave like that. scary.

it's hard to tell what causes animals to act in certain ways sometimes. if ghost was really an issue, why would it happen only at night? why not during the day? there's no real rule about ghosts popping out only at nighttime, so i'm wondering if your dog just gets spooked when available light decreases. just as a kid might get spooked when it gets dark, perhaps your dog is the same way? possibly mere hallucinations, or a more physical problem in your dog's vision that causes it to see things when there's not enough light to define shapes/objects.

as for noises at home, i wouldnt worry about it unless it happens consistently and the noise is clearly abnormal. when someone says a ghost is in your house and makes noises, it's not hard to hear a certain noise and start thinking it's the ghost. sounds like self-fulling prophecy to me. (a bit reminiscent of the witchcraft phenomena back in the colonial era)

i'd say dont get worried. take your dog to a vet and test your dog's physical responses to the 5 senses and make sure he/she's healthy all around. if problem persists... time to deduce other possibilities...

Ooooh... such a creepy story T____T
But anyway... From what I remember hearing from experts, they say that animals have a sixth sense and that they can sense things beforehand and things that we cannot see.

Big chances are-- your dog sees dead people :x

my dog used to be like that too.. but he stopped. the only reason he was barking is becuase there was a possum hidden outside that i never noticed. my guess is a ghost, but what watcher said is contradicting my guess mellow.gif

^lol a possum? thats so cute.

i think it is a sixth sense thing...just like how animals can sense an earthquake before it happens. but you should still take him to the vet cause if he does that all the time then thats not good for him and for you and your family

There's probably something lurking around your house.

mellow.gif You should get your house checked. For ghosts or something.

... that was kinda creepy laugh.gif
you must've lived there for awhile with your dog right?
so why would there be a ghost there all of a sudden?
i mean i don't know if they can just appear in your house like that or not... but yea
but if your dog started barking when you started living there then maybe it is a ghost?
so maybe just get your dog checked at the vet for anything~
and maybe a psychic to check your house

smilesoup, don't offend the spirits. You shouldn't treat them so lightly. They might send ghosts on you.

And JiHyUnEe03, I hope your dog feels better!

im not a ghost believer
so maybe something's bothering him? also barking is a sign of frustration.
also, they have hearing sense far superior than humans and maybe able to hear some tiny mouse that you (or any humans) couldn't hear.
if that's not the case then i wouldn't know... i doubt its ghosts smile.gif
if he does it again, show him around the house to show theres nothing there then give him a treat/praise him
dont know if it'll work but worth the try wink.gif

I have 7 dogs and I have experienced this before. Most likely it is a spirit in the room. Dogs do have that special sense.

Is there any experimental evidence that proves that dogs have a special sense that detects spirits?

I mean, how does one really know these things?

^It's more of a common "fact", claiming that animals are more sensitive to paranormal activity than humans, though there are people who are also sensitive to it (labelled as "sensitives", myself being one of them).

Before you go around telling people there's a spirit following you around, take the dog for a check-up at the vet and have your home inspected for rodents and pipework. Noises from rodents or pipes could be what's grabbing your dog's attention, which would explain why he barks and whimpers at the walls. Your dog may also be partially blind, which would explain why he doesn't like the dark. Perhaps with a lack of perfect vision, he unexpectedly bumped into an object and it scared/hurt him (dogs pretty much make the same noise when they're afraid or hurt). Or he may have hallucinations. My friend's dog had hallucinations and is now on medication.

If everything checks out perfectly (no rodents, pipes are quiet, and dog is in perfect physical and mental health) then you can suspect a ghost or spirit (but I'm betting it didn't hurt your dog, just scared it). Try taking some EVPs and some pictures around the house every so often and see what you get.
