The alternative is like Nyquil(sp?) or something x). That's what my friend does.

My parents are both doctors and they told me that a major side-effect of melatonin is fatigue. If you do take melatonin, take small dosage.
Anyways for trouble sleeping, I just use music. Yiruma music.

well, they dont usually have pills that contain more than 3 mg of melatonin, but its true that u shouldn't take too much (.5 mg is most effective).
how's your lifestyle? do you exercise regularly? if you dont, i suggest some exercise, (yoga is nice and relaxing).
tip: dont go on your computer if you find yourself not able to sleep (lights mess up your circadium rhythms and the computer screen is a huge conductor of light).

I toss and turn most of the night, and switch side to side and im fully conscious of it. I can't even sleep
until it's around 2-3AM sometimes. I think I think too much while i'm trying to sleep. I keep on telling
myself to 'think of nothing', but then i'm like thinking.. 'wait a minute.. isn't thinking of nothing still thinking of
something' LOL. /sigh. Sorry for the unhelpful post.

1. Maintain a healthy diet
2. During the period which you are attempting to cure insomnia, try not to take naps
3. 15/30 minute exercise in the morning, and do not exercise two hours before you sleep
4. MOST MOST and MOST important of all, maintain a regular sleeping cycle
Hmm, I don't think I left anything out. But yes, try to avoid tea & coffee for those periods you are attemtping to cure insomnia. It may be tough to cure it at first, but you may get the hang of it after you establish a regular sleeping cycle. I did turn to sleeping pills, when I would just lay there and couldn't sleep for hours.
