Seeing the trailer on the big screen (right before Harry Potter) was amazing. I cannot wait until December!

The trailer in the theater is pretty outstanding. There was a bunch of new footage at that convention I mentioned in San Diego - not online but this description is pretty impressive -

John Musker and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid) then came out and presented The Princess and the Frog. It represents Disney's return to 2-D animated musicals. The story is set in 1920's New Orleans and features music by Randy Neuman. It covers jazz, gospel, zydeco, and more. There are eccentric characters like Mama Odie (our Fairy Godmother) who has a "seeing eye snake". We saw 8 minutes of the film including a musical number entitled "Friends on the Other Side". It featured a voodoo magician voiced by Keith David (who knew he could sing??). I never thought I'd see voodoo in a Disney film, but it looks fantastic. The whole New Orleans setting looks beautiful on the screen. The musical number shows the prince being turned into a frog amidst trippy animation that makes Pink Elephants on Parade look tame. We were then treated to another scene where the prince and the princess, both turned into frogs, have some tongue trouble as they get tangled up while learning to catch flies. A misguided, trumpet playing gator named Louie (get it??? Armstrong???) tried to help them but it takes Ray the Cajun firefly to get them untangled. Overall it looked fun and should be an interesting new animated feature.

I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it's the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It's probably the most important thing in a person.

Can't believe that hasn't been posted yet - this clip with Dr. Facilier is AWESOME.

Talk about the perfect villain ... the more footage that I see, the better this is looking biggrin.gif

It's interesting to see this setting for the movie. The jazz and culture of New Orleans should make for a really good show!

I like the plot lines of a lot of Disney movies, and I'm glad they're back to the traditional drawing style. It's about time they had a black princess smile.gif I can't wait to see it. I'm glad they're doing something different than the usual Disney movie princess plot line.

I'm going to TRY to be objective about the movie and not base my thoughts on how they represent blacks, but it looks cute, and I don't think that'll be a problem.

I am going into it just plain excited and for a long list of reasons! Like you said, the jazz and culture of New Orleans is a major draw for me and so is the 2D animation. I hope people give the movie a chance rather than just make assumptions about Tiana's role in the film. This IS the return of 2D animation in my mind and I am super optimistic. Doesn't December seem too far away!?!?

The plot isn't even Disneys. This movie is based off of the book The Prog Princess by E.D Baker. Disney just changed it up a bit by such as making it into a New Orleans setting

So? Most of the Disney classics are based off of books- the little mermaid, cinderella, etc.

It's great that Disney finally have their first black princess, but I'm more excited that it's going back to 2D. I hope the songs are great too.

Most fairy tales have an older origin, so that's not really a surprise to me. But I think Disney does animated musicals better than anyone out there, you know? Plus Anika Noni Rose has an amazing voice (Dreamgirls anyone!?!?!) And Randy Newman has been nominated for too many Oscars to count - so I have no worries when I comes to the soundtrack for this film.

Wanted to revive this thread with some soundtrack info. Not sure if anyone has heard this new Ne-Yo single but it's totally adorable and fits in so well with the love story in the film. It's called Never Knew I Needed. Great touch to have the music video shot in New Orleans!

it's about damn time. i remember a while back on BJJ there was a discussion as to why there were only Caucasian princesses (with the exception of Mulan and Pochahantas) and alot of people were upset about it (not just black ppl) also i think that Disney should expand and have a princess from other places as well....like how Belle is French,Mulan is Chinese,Pochahantas is American Indian,Jasmine is Arabian...etc. i think it would be really cool for them to eventually cover the globe with princess stories...that would be frawesomeİ

I know. that would be cool =)

I hope this movie does well. 2-D should never die!

I think it's going to remind people why Disney 2D animation is so amazing. Looks like an instant classic for sure! I just read interview with the directors - Ron Clements and John Musker - sooo talented.

Who is gonna be seeing this first thing Friday?

OMG I saw it yesterday (full theater whoo hoo!!!)

I have to say I loved the movie..although I think the character development felt a lil rushed I enjoyed everything.

I loved Tiana's independent woman attitude and not to mention her many outfits, her dress at the end was very pretty.

Naveen was freaking handsome biggrin.gif biggrin.gif my biggest disney crush since John Smith in Pocahontas lol

The funniest characters in the whole movie went to Ray, The Alligator and Charlotte.

I cried when Ray passed away because it caught me off guard.

This is a must see for all Disney fans.

^ I saw it yesterday, too. Except I saw the last showing, so it was completely empty. 8D
I agree, the character development did feel somewhat rushed.
The movie was very good, though. :3
Ahh, I also cried at the end. @__@The whole star thing was just, woww. So sad, yet happy.

It was visually stunning and I really connected with the characters (especially Tiana and Naveen). You're totally right about Tiana's outfits, not to mention that she is so beautiful - great return to Disney princesses and 2D animation. I doubt I am the only one looking forward to Disney's next hand drawn film...
