Mulan was NOT a princess. But she is a Hero =)
Jasmine is another asian... I think Aladin sorta reminds me of Tom Cruise too. why is he the only one that doesn't have to wear a turban?
the closest Disney has put someone from east asia are the siamese cats from lady and the tramp and Mulan, who did win a war and save all of China
Jasmine is a real asian princess
secondly. Mulan is considered a Princess
maybe not in the film but she is a princess.
Belle isnt really a princess either if u think about it
Given what I have seen throughout my time, I believe you. There are more black people in american cartoons and comics than in anime/manga. Anime has some too but maybe not in the way you're thinking or would like. Still, there are black people in anime and you just have to look hard to find more. Now for the topic I'm thinking, I'm thinking of what to say for it and I will spend a little while thinking of the way to make it.
Yeh
I remember Mushroom Samba
one of the best episodes.
But u never see a black person as a main character
except for Afro Samurai
or a black person in the main crowd
never see that in anime....I hope to change that one day not only for
black characters but others as well

Im an admirer of a great story. so i just hope it doesnt get too cliche with the voodoo etc.
Also WHY is damn randy newman doing the music for this. I know its gonna have a lot of jazz music as a feature, but couldnt they get someone else. I cant stand that man. 'lets drop the big one' is not a funny song.
and Belle isnt a princess, if anything shes a queen now because she married the beast aka the former king.
Mulan is a warrior and hero but wasnt one either.
Disney is just selective about who they choose to be princesses.
I think Mimi-Na's fan-art hit the nail

Artist's Comments
Well, you asked for it. Where do all the OTHER Disney heroines go?
Mulan and Poca didn't make this pic because a)they were included in my SD Princess pics and b)this thing was crowded enough as it was!
Photoshop 7 and Painter 9 (excuse the slightly messy background ;p)
Edit: okay, so some of you don't QUITE know all the characters. Quick cheat-sheet:
Kida (atlantis)
Wendy (PP)
Lilo
Esmeralda
Meg
Sprite (Fantasia 2000 - Firebird Suite)
Tink
Shanti (Jungle Book. In the original, she had pigtails and the pink dress, but I gave her the long braid from JB2)
Blue Fairy (Pinocchio)
Jane (Tarzan)
Maid Marian (Robin Hood)
Alice (not impressed, obviously)
Eilonwy (Black Cauldron. YES, SHE IS TECHNICALLY A PRINCESS LIKE KIDA, I KNOW!)
Cpt. Amelia (Treasure Planet)

remember that guy trying to steal Ein??
btw is Jet a black guy??? lol he sure seems like one,
but there appearances are just.....so I dun know how to say it
I cant wait to see ur topic
but I can tell u for sure u do not see more black people in anime
than in americn cartoons, that's a fact.
Maybe I haven't noticed because of my disdain for American Cartoons. I mean at least in Anime you get some serious characters amongst a sea of crap American Cartoons. I don't know I love me some Anime lol!! They're more than animation to me...lol.

exactly..she wasn't a black princesss..she played the role of a white princess..don't get them confused..the story of Cinderella is essentially a Caucasian ''princess''
just because she played the role doesn't make it a ''black princess story''
the role in this new film is based on a Black American girl..therefore she's the first...and regardless if years later the tv adaptation is played by a black girl, a white girl, an asian girl, or a hispanic girl...it will still be a ''black princess'' story.
* i saw somebody mention the Mayans...i think that would be a PERFECT story to do...so much culture..man that's be awesome...there are so many cool cultural places in the world..it'd be nice if one day Disney covers the globe...

Yup. Technically Jasmine is an Asian princess. But I guess people want to see an Asian princess that fits the prototype that most people see for Asians. I guess they see Jasmine as more Middle Eastern than Asian. Though, they technically are asian. I don't know.
I do agree, though. It would be extremely interesting if Disney delved into the idea for making Disney Princesses for all the countries in the world. =D

Lol, I want them to make a Disney Princess film about Queen Esther (who saved the Jews from genocide?). I think that would be so awesome. I want a Jewish princess for some reason; such a fascinating history.
I'd also like a Korean princess; anyone know the story of ShimCheong? But I don't think that will be likely since we already have an Asian "princess."
I'm excited about The Princess and the Frog!!!! I'm glad it will be a traditional style.
I read that Alicia Keys directly contacted the company because she wanted to be the voice of Tiana(?), but I guess she got rejected.

Wow, I like this. It looks mysterious and romantic.

Actually...Cinderella is VERY multiculural - almost every culture has a cinderella story. While Grimm's version might be the most well known, the oldest one I know of is Egyption.

What about Mulan? She is as much a "Disney Princess" as Cinderella or Belle or Pochahantas - none of whom are ACTUALLY princesses, lol.

I love both those ideas! Especially Queen Esther - that would make a great movie! But...I'm still waiting for them to do Cupid and Psyche. My favorite myth ^^ - though since they've done Hercules, it's not likely.... ^^;;
