i think you can go either way with this one because the 900 and 1000 basically have the same functions...but i would go with the 1000 because it's cheaper and newer. if you need a 10 mp camera [for large pictures], then get the 900, but i think the 1000's 7 mp is big enough
for quality, i haven't seen sample pics of the 1000, but the 900's pictures came out nice
My Choice: IXY Digital 1000
perhaps i got my cameras confused, but the ixy 1000 = sd900 in US, and ixy 900 IS = sd800 IS in US. the ixy1000 is the one with 10MP??
anyways... based on my understanding, it depends on whether or not you want wide angle shots. the ixy 900 starts at 28mm, while the ixy 1000 starts at 37mm. having wider angle means you can fit more into the picture with less space between you and the subject. however, this also means that the ixy 900 has shorter reach. you can zoom in closer to the subject with the ixy 900.
as for IS, i think IS is a very handy feature to have. however, the ixy 1000 has it's own 'stablizer' if you could call it that. it has a larger sensor (digital film) in the camera, and lets you take less noisy pictures at higher ISO's (up to 3200 as opposed to the ixy 900's 1600).
side note: by raising ISO, you can make your shutter speed faster, and therefore compensate for camera shake. (IS works differently, but ultimately gives you the same effect).
personally, i'd just get the ixy 900 IS for it's wide-angle shots. IS is a plus as well. only reason i'd go for ixy 1000 is cuz it's so darned cool with it's titanium casing!!
