Soo I just got a 30gb video ipod.. and I've tried out iTunes, but I've heard there were better programs that wouldn't have as many format problems and such? Anyone have any ideas on what are some "must-haves" for the iPod?

Also.. is having a case really necessary to keep the iPod safe, is it that fragile? If so, what is a good case to buy o.O

Thanks lol

i think its better to use the programs that come with products as they are tested or specially designed for the product. i know i used media monkey on my old ipod and eventually the harddrive had a bunch of errors and i had to replace the hd. itunes is simple

The iPod is really scratch-prone...the mirror finish on the back can get scratched by placing it on a table with bread crumbs. =X Believe me, bad experience...it's better off having it covered with some type of skin.

yamipod or anapod are good alternatives to iTunes for managing your music.

skins are also good for oyur ipod...you should get one. i also got a refurbished logitech mm50 dock ($50 CDN). it allows me to charge my ipod without a computer, and it is a small stereo that can run on batteries too. also has a remote. its really good... i got it cuz i dont wanna always leave my computer on to charge tongue.gif (theres also the overpriced official apple ipod charger too).

and theres other stereo/dock systems like the one i got... you just gotta research.

what's wrong with using itunes? i think itunes is so easy to use, why would you want to use anything else?

also, the newer generation ipods aren't as prone to scratches as the first generation. i bought an iskin case for mine because sometimes when i don't have pockets i like to clip it to my pants.

i know that the first generation nanos aren't fragile and people bought cases to keep it from getting scratched, not to keep it from cracking when they dropped it. the first generation nanos were pretty solid in construction. the material for this new generation of ipods is different from last year so i don't know how sturdy they currently are.

Thanks for all the responses..For the covers you guys listed.. I have a FM transmitter thing, but it is perfectly fitted for a 30gb iPod that doesn't have a case on it... are any of the cases listed easily removable? I think the iShield looks pretty difficult (or not meant) to be removed, not sure about contour case. I'm not really afraid about dropping it.. it's more of a fear of scratches on the screen and such. Are there any other suggestions?

altho... i do believe the cause will cause some scratches on the back.. and then where the little rubber nob thingy is.. that'll scratch it... well not really scratch but it makes a whitish color? ph34r.gif

get a case where it covers the front, and is hard enough so if pressure is applied on the screen, nothing will happen.

at first when i got my ipod, i got those silicone skins and i applied pressure to the screen and saw that it began to become a rainbow color is you tilted it to the sun. so now i use a case with a hard cover for the screen.

itunes is hard to use compared to other explorer-like organizers. also, you can transfer to AND from using an itunes alternative. itunes is a bit clunky IMO. theres many other advantages...like search features, on the fly format conversion (anapod), multiple OS support (yamipod), etc

One thing I really like about Itunes is that you could access the music store hear some samples of music with just a click away.
