Hello everyone,

I have a Canon SD400 digital camera. It is still relatively new, about 1-2 months old. Anyway, today I found out a problem--whenever I press the ON button, nothing happens. The Canon startup screen displays on the LCD screen and then 6 beeps are heard. A few seconds later, the camera shuts off automatically. The playback mode (where you view all your pictures) still works, so it appears that I can narrow the issue down with the lens having some sort of problems, since they are supposed to extend at startup, but they no longer do so. The lens could be jammed, I don't know.. does anyone know how I should fix it, or have any suggestions on what I should do to fix it? The manual offers no help.

Thanks a lot! smile.gif

Sounds like the infamous canon e18 error. Physically not much you can do... call canon and see if they will fix it. A friend of mine had that happen after 1 year of use right as the warranty expired lol

yep ^ e-18.. many canon users usually experience this type of problem, and your lens is jammed. Unless you're a real expert in repairing things, then you'll have difficulties fixing it. You have to take apart the whole camera, about 3-4 steps later then unscrew the lens and tweak it. It's a difficult process, but I do suggset you to send it back to canon, i'm not sure what the fee is, but I've heard people done it before.

Thanks, you guys! I never knew that this was a common Canon problem. I googled it up and said that the E18 error message appears on the LCD screen, but it does not on mine.. does that mean my problem isn't related to it? Either way I think it is.

I asked some of my friends who were good at this kind of stuff and they suggested I try the warranty before I attempt to disassemble it. Do you think the warranty would cover this type of problem?
