When you are watching do you think of what race a character is? What do you think or feel when other races or cultures are represented in anime?
What animes are diverse? Lets name stuff that has each group of people.
Asian people
White people
Black people
Hispanic people
Or any others
Feel free to share your thoughts.

I don't see it much, but u did mention cowboy bebop in the other thread
ummmmm Street Fighter II V had spanish, asian, white, and black, but thas cuz street fighter is already diversed.
that old cartoon what's it called "Cyborg 009" is that what it was called???
there were two black robots.
I know that anime is something that comes from Japan
but I would really love to see some major diversity in a cartoon for a change.
Because in american cartoons we have that and that's one thing I do like more about US cartoons the diversity, but I would really like to see this in an anime.
But if us non asians would like to see more diversity in anime and manga, it's up to us to make the difference.
That is a dream I hope to make come true.

Lol I aint gonna lie I care lol!
Don't get me wrong I don't think anime creators or racist or anything
not one bit. I only thought that Soul to Seoul manga was pretty ignorant towards caucasians and black people.
But it's just something that I would like to see
if not, then oh well. I still love anime :3
I just feel like it's become such a global phenomenan
and it would be cool to add more cultures
I'm just a diversity freak hehhehehe.

First off, most (and I say most because there are exceptions depending on the storyline) anime stories take place in Japan.
They don't usually specify race, but it's common sense to think that they would be Japanese.
It reflects reality. Japan isn't flooded with different races... In fact, neither are most countries.
Only the US, Canada, Australia, and a few others are this diverse, and I think it's a bit selfish to expect all other countries to promote multiculturalism just as much.
They don't live in a multicultural country; they could careless if they've excluded a certain race...
Honestly, it wouldn't even make sense for them to add different races just to please their foreign audiences.

For crying out loud Japan is getting mixed up I mean this is a good thing, in there's alot of AM and BF and AF and BF popping up in Japan. It's becoming very common and that's a good thing so how come seeing just one or 2 foreign people in Japan will become a thing in the past. So why not get started?
WITH ME NEVER FEAR I'M GOING TO MAKE SURE MY MANGA WON'T LEAVE ANYBODY LEFT OUT! THERE WILL BE MULTICULTURAL COUPLES ESPECIALLY AM & BF AND AF & BM SO BRING ON THE LOVE SO TAKE THAT! YAY!

I think, being a minority myself (Asian in North America), we've really come to appreciate diversity.
It is always nice to see our own race represented in something.
But, different environment, different expectations.
Japan isn't a multiracial/multicultural country. They pride in their unique culture and are actually pretty keen on preserving it.
Thus, it can't be expected of them to care about being multicultural with their works or not.
P.S.- LucasBunny, I remember seeing your artwork (I think). I loved your style! If you ever make a comic or something, I'd definitely look it up.

I went to a trip to Japan a few years ago and I was telling my host mother that I had a non-asian friend who had black hair and brown eyes (italian) and she wouldn't believe me. She told me that she always thought that outsiders only had blue eyes and blonde hair, o_o

Well Japan has got a LONG way to go.

the only thing i really get bothered with is the stereotypical representation of characters from outside of japan. like black people (always big and with a penchant for fighting) and other asians (always dressed in traditional chinese attire), and white people are always blonde haired and blue eyed. the only diversity is in the suppsoedly japanese characters who obviously do not conform to what japanese people really look like, often taking on a caucasian features. i don't like how they stereotype other asians while they make japanese characters look white basically...
when i sit down and think about stuff like this, it gets annoying but usually i don't even pay attention because race is like a non-existant factor in anime and no one really thinks anything if there happens to be a black guy in it or someone other than japanese.
