I'm a senior in high school and
I applied to parsons new school of art in NYC and
got a interview/portfolio review yesterday..
I don't think my portfolio is that badd.. it's actually good in my (and others) opinion
and by looking at other applicants from my school, their portfolio is way worse than mine..
but the interviewer, Anthony Padilla, gave me ALOT of critiques which were not that great :T
he said overall my porfolio is O-K-A-Y and advised me to work on my proportions and stuff...
other schools like Pratt and SVA loved my still life paintings and self portrait but my interviewer pointed out so many
things i need work on... :T
although my other friends who have applied there exprienced the same thing as i,
like how their interviewers weren't too impressed with anything, the interview really degrated my hope of getting in T^T
so.. for people who got accepted to Parsons, how did your interview go? did your interviewer complement your work alot?

??? ... i thought parsons > SVA like... always?
i know some people that got into parsons last year, and their portfolios werent that fabulous. but they had pretty good sat scores.. in the 2000s..
my art teacher told me that many art schools are starting to lower the standards of how to choose new students..?
(ive wanted to go to parsons since like... 7th grade. couple more months till i apply :] )

SVA is probably best for animation majors becuase they have connections with WB. I applied to SVA this year and was accepted
hooray lol
I didn't go to any interviews b/c i didn't consider SVA at all in the beginning to be honest. However, I just did it for the hell of it and besides being accepted, received a $5000 per year scholarship.. It's not much but a hell of a lot better than nothing lol. I posted four of my works in the artwork section so feel free to check it out.
Parsons... all i've heard about taht school is fashion.. it's not as good as FIT (for fashion) but i think it can hold its own.

I attend Eugene Lang College the New School for Lib. Arts. And I have to tell you, wow, if you get in/decide to go to Parsons, good luck.
Even though Lang and Parsons are in the same university, it's a totally different world. A few of my friends (and half of my dorm floor) are Parsons students and they are always busy with school work (which seem to always consist of crazy projects, like construct a cardboard chair able to bear your weight!). The Parsons workload is so grueling that a lot of Parsons kids drop out within the first semester... and from what I've heard, the professors are exactly like your interviewer--sharp, critical.
Annnd... dahanizzle, I have to disagree with you on the FIT/Parsons thing. The proof is empirical: Tom Ford is a Parsons alumnus, as is Marc Jacobs, whereas FIT has.... Michael Kors, king of jet lag fashion.

I go to FIT. A lot of faculty from FIT are from Parsons and vice-versa. Either way, both schools have good departments.
Parsons is our rival school when it comes to fashion though.
and on a side note, SVA was my safety school ...
Other than that, I know what you mean. I had my portfolio reviewed by Parsons and they said I needed 'more', whereas
I had my portfolios reviewed by Pratt, FIT, and SVA and they all loved mine (I was accepted into all three also).
And Pratt tops Parsons, if anything.
