HELP!! i just bought a new external drive. i had no problems trasnferring 700MB files to it for the past week or so but suddenly i can't transfer files to it today. I keep on getting an error message even before the transfer is completed....... either i get a message saying "transfer cannot be completed, cannot read file from source" or my screen turns blue and i get this message saying "disk write error". ahhh..i'm going crazy! :cries: :cries:
I tried transferring files from my external back to internal and there was no problem. But when i tried to transfer the file back to the external drive, it errors again.
does anybody know what the problem is? thanks!!

you might have a bad sector on one of your drives, in which case, that drive is pretty much garbage, basura, ssu reh gi, la ji

Use the installer cd that comes with your external drive.

I'm guessing you are getting read/write, I/O errors.
Run a full scan disk on both your source drive and your external drive- it'll look for bad sectors and mark them as bad.
The drive isn't garbage as far as I know though..

Yeah, you should still be able to use the drive okay.
But can you try to play the file you are trying to transfer out? Tab around the video and see if it plays okay.
Consider downloading http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php or a similar SMART utility. Those will tell you how the "drive health" is. It basically reads what the drive has suffered from recently.

yeah, have you tried scandisk?
were you trying to transfer a file larger than a few GB to a FAT32 disk?
loose/dodgy cable?
that's all i can think of right now...
