ME and my sister adopted a Siberian Husky on Thursday! ^ ^ The owner is a uni students and she wanted someone to take care of him because she'll be living in a dorm, and they do not accept dogs. She told us that he came from Mexico 3 weeks ago(he got all of his shots before coming to Canada), his father is there, and her boyfriend is the owner and sent her the puppy. The family was totally nice! When we saw him for the first time, I was like "whoa!" my sister couldn't wait to say how adorable he is. The drive was only 3 minutes from there to our house, but puppies like him get scared and he bit me A LOT, and cried too, we tried to calm him down. Oh sorry >__< he's 9 weeks old now hehe. It's been kidna hard but we are doing fine with feeding him and taking him for short walks.

4 weeks old (in Mexico)

his original name in Spanish is Raul (Rah-ool) the owners said that we could name him whatever. He only responds to whistles, or buddy. But we now named him Geno (Gee-know)

9 Weeks (at my house)

Video of him being a dork tongue.gif

Right now i get frusterated cause he does his business a lot (like 20 times +__+) me and my mom take him outside and he goes like 2 times then poos (sorry XD) but then we bring him inside and he pees like 5 times in 2 minutes! we tried those pattend mats that are for them to do thier busniness, but he just tears it up so we don't even bother. He bites a lot badly. He bit two of my cousins and they bled a little. I get fristerated all the time with him, cause i come home from work, and then i have to go and watch him after because my mom and sister work after i come home. I don't eat or anything i just change then watch him for like 6 hours straight, i tried leaving him but he pees all over the floor, i got really mad at him, and he started barking at me, and chewing on my pants (which are now ripped) I stood outside with him till they came back from work, and i just feel exhausted. I know it is gonna take a while to train but thus will become worse when school starts in one week, with work too. I don't wanna give him away, but my whole body, and my feet hurt all the time now.

Aww, your dog is extremely cute! I always found baby huskies adorable, it's gonna grow up to be a beautiful dog for sure.

The description of your dog sounds a lot like mine. He dumps so many times and the house stinks even if you ventilate. I think that since they're young, they just don't know how to control it. Once they grow big enough (about a year), I'm sure they can take care of it theirselves. Plus, my dog bites a lot too. It tickled at first but now that his teeth is growing stong, it hurts like mad. He even made holes in my slippers. From what my vet said, puppies with biting habits grow to become fierce. It's good for house-guarding dogs.

^ i have a papillon! people lovvveee him and they always think that he is so pretty. my 3 yr old papillon never had his kneecaps dislocated and he jumps all over the place.. but i can see how it could happen. their legs are so skinny and long! shrugs. one thing i dont like about him is that he SHEDS like CRRRAZZZYY..its ALL over the place. he's a high maintenance dog and you have to brush him a couple times a day for him to not shed his hair all in the house. lamee. but anyway.. he is super smart...compared to my other dog (minidachshund) and can easily learn lots of tricks.

I can totally sympathise with you.My husky bites alot too.It never did lead to bleeding but it does hurt.I haven't been able to make her stop though she bites lesser and softer now.Everyone whom I've met that has a husky says that they have to send them for obedience training.She's really smart and she learns things very quickly,she was house-trained in 2 days,but I don't know why she just never learns not to bite.Maybe she just likes biting humans and she can be very stubborn when it comes to the things that she wants.

Okay so my Mini Schnauzer has clumps of matted fur EVERYWHERE =\

I've looked up tutorials online about how to comb out matted hair but my dog seriously has way too many and I don't think I can do it..
If I take her to the groomer's will they get rid of all the matted fur for me?

The groomer will probably cut the matted fur off
If it's really bad, they'll shave it off.

What's a good family dog?

And will a dog love you the same if you got it as a baby/if it was already full grown (2-3 years old?)

People say to get dogs as a baby because it will love you, they get to see you (viceversa) grow.

imo,i'd like to have a baby than one being 2-3 years old because then i get to see him grow,like...a relationship i guess??♥ but you know~ its time and commitment that is really important :3 so the age of the dog doesnt really matter =)

EDIT;
i think border collie would fit as a family dog too~

A golden retriever usually but you know theres tons of dogs in the shelter and any dog can be a good family dog it all depends on how you raise him.

Of course a dog will love you the same! I got my dog when he was almost 2 and he loves the family like crazy. But you should really look into adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue, they really need the love. And its also a plus since you won't have to house break them since some already are.

Golden retrievers, and Labs seem to be the most common family dogs.

It is hard to say without knowing what kind of family you have. However, I can say the biggest mistake to make when picking out a family dog is to choose a working class breed for a life in the city.

It won't matter what age you get the dog, if it will be a loving dog it will be so. People who have adopted from the pound often say that they feel the pet is more attached to them because they feel "grateful" for being rescued. And in fact, you will probably feel more affection towards an older dog when you are not dealing with having to housebreak it. Keep in mind, though, that many dogs in today's society develop undesirable habits from poor owner-pet relationships and lack of proper training. Usually it is simple to fix them, but some dogs are more neurotic than others.

A cat needs equal love and attention from its owner. Just because it's a cat doesn't mean you can afford to spend less time with it. If you're adopting a pet you need to devote yourself to ensuring its well-being in all aspects and spending time with it is part of the deal.

Realistically speaking, a cat will have no trouble being alone while he/she is at school once it's past a certain age. A dog, however, due to it's pack instinct, can have major issues adjusting to being left by itself. So a cat is ideal for this person's situation.

I disagree that a cat's reputation for independence automatically means people who have less time should go for cats. You don't coddle a cat as much as you would a dog but that doesn't mean you can afford to leave it alone for long periods of time. Dogs and cats adjust differently but ultimately they need the most basic of things - a loving owner willing to spend time with them.

I wouldn't say that the time spent at school is so long that a cat would become upset and despondent over it, though. Where a dysfunctionally adjusted dog would become obsessed and neurotic about being left alone, cats learn to sleep it off or amuse themselves. As long as the owner is providing everything the cat should need while they're gone (including toys, though I agree they don't have as much fun playing by themselves), there should be no guilt involved with leaving them to their own devices for a portion of the day. I have had a number of cats from the time I was very small, so I understand what you're saying. Also I find it very refreshing to talk to someone that cares this much about cats, so please don't take what I say as offensive. I also agree that a breed like a Siberian would be a very poor choice to leave alone without atleast another cat to keep it company.

I admit I am sensitive when it comes to cats, as I have one of my own and am very protective of it. I do see your point and can agree that cats are pretty resourceful about finding their own amusement. But I really don't like the perception that just because cats seem more independent, people who have less time to take care of pets should go for them. That, to me, is a very wrong approach when someone is deciding whether to get a pet. A pet is a commitment. I just wish people would have pets out of a great love for animals and desire to care for them, and not calculate how much time a pet can get so long as it doesn't eat into the owner's schedule.

I respect you very much for that. I believe that a pet is a wonderful addition to a person's life. However, people lead busy lives and it is necessary to compromise at times. Like right now I must hurry off to work !

I have a question about my dog's weird behavior these days. It's nothing big but a little annoying. --;
I have an eight year old Westie and I usually take her around this one lake. The walk is usually 3/4 of a mile. But these days, she's been tugging on her leash to make me go to all these different routes that we usually never take. I used to be able to walk her on the main path very easily, but now she'll resist and try to go on other paths. It's so weird! Can anyone explain this?

Could be a new animal mulling around that area and leaving scent that she's interested in. I'd say it's weirder than she hasn't been this way before, seeing as she's a terrier.

If it gets to bother you a lot, you may have to go back to reteaching her to heel and pay attention to which way YOU want to go.
