I hope I'm not starting an already discussed topic, but has anybody here discussed about Shiba Inus?

I've been in mad love with them and am thinking about adopting one. They're such beautiful and sharp little companions.

I'm not here blindly asking questions as I've done alot of research about their behaviors and habits. Unfortunately, I've met very very few people who actually own one, but I want to hear more, first-hand, from non-breeding shiba fanatics on soompi who also have one.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=OsAISyELSQk
http://youtube.com/watch?v=m467EXXJCYQ

Anyone care to share their experiences raising one (and by chance, how they are with other pets?)

Thanks smile.gif

ooh my friend has a female shiba inu. they are soo cute
he doesnt know much about animals so i helped him a lot in the beginning.
he doesnt have any pets so im not sure how they interact.
but i would say that shiba inus are fairly easy to raise
he doesnt spend much time with her but shes never aggressive to people (even strangers), eats her dog food, doesn't whine or bark, and she potty trained like within a few wks after he bought her.

if it matters, he bought her from a pet shop so obviously they dont spend too much time doing behavior training versus a breeder.

if you buy a female shiba inu they stay fairly small too.
his dog is a year and a half, almost two and she's hardly grown much when he first got her (at 7 months)
her body is longer and shes a few inches taller but shes still considered a small dog.

My sister and I adopted an American Pit Bull Terrier mix yesterday...

any tips on making him less agressive?

Will taking him to parks and other places with people help him get used to having people around him? (He barks at people who walks past our house... so he's a good guard dog but I dont want him to be like this when i take him on walks and stuff)

An adopted pit bull is VERY difficult to train.

There's numerous laws, that have strict bans on them. It's gonna be a lot of work to tame your dog.

Sale of non-grandfathered pit bulls is illegal here in Ontario; new ones can't be brought in. By law here, they must be muzzled and leashed on a leash of less than 1.8 metres while in public.

It's really risky to others to have a grown aggressive pit bull, so you should really place a nuzzle on him.

Yes all breeds of dogs can be considered dangerous, but pit bulls are the most prominent with their natrual high temperaments and immense strength similar to Rottweiler and German Shepperds.

she likes to eat everything, but i had to look around
to cross the street, and in the split second she
gobbled that peice of glass... and then her mouth started
bleeding tears.gif and i was freaking out like crazzyy, and was
all teary on the way home...good this she spat the thing out.
and the vet said she didn't have any glass shards in her so

Well my Shih Tzu had a lump near his eye. So yesterday, the vet operated it.
The vet shaved the fur near his eye so now he looks like a poodle. ._.
How long does it take for his fur to grow back?

BRB with pictures. i need to shrink them. ><

I googled around and it seems it's about a couple of months, according to this site. So not to worry on that score, and just reassure your dog that he still looks great. My cat had the same problem when his fur got shaved due to surgery, but his fur grew out and it looks just like the old fur, maybe even nicer.

He's only 4 months old right now so it can't be too difficult can it? We have other dogs in the house and people who come visit. He doesn't bark at other dogs or people anymore (unless they walk past our house) and just sniffs them and starts licking them like crazy~ haha.

^Aww, adorable!

Are pittbulls totally banned from Ontario now? I've always wanted a pitbull and was planning to get one when I moved out of the house. Does that mean I can't?
I never bothered learning all the specific things on the bill, except that I don't like it. Dogs don't hurt people, people hurt people.

According to Wikipedia:

"Pit bulls are not allowed to be imported into or brought through Ontario. Severe fines are in place for bringing new pit bulls into Ontario. Pit bulls owned prior to August 29, 2005 are grandfathered in. All grandfathered pit bulls of over 36 weeks of age are required to be sterilized immediately. Grandfathered pit bulls must be muzzled and leashed on a leash of less than 1.8 metres while in public. Sale of non-grandfathered pit bulls to residents of Ontario is illegal."

Er...I might be wrong, but I thought rabbits were self-groomers?
I thought they gave themselves baths

YESSSS, A PET THREAD ON SOOMPI. I would really appreciate your advice.

I've no pets right now, but I am considering getting one. Are any of you university pet owners? I'd like a toy dog. I know they're a lot of work and uni life is really busy. But is it possible to raise one? I mean, many of those net idols have dogs/cats. Like Angelababy, Nikki, Janice, Pey, etc.... How on earth do they manage??? wacko.gif

I want a cute little dog. What breeds would you recommend for a student? If any of you are uni pet owners, please share your advice/tips. Thank you~!

^ I was going to ask something similar. I'm going to be living in a less diverse weather area. Super cold winters and Uber hot summers...and i'd like a small cute doggie and also a big dog.
When I get them, would it be easier to train them myself or take them to a pet school and have them trained?

Also, this may sound uuuuuuuuber slow, but is it true that female doggies have periods? :-/
but my knees get weak intensive
when you give me k-kisses.

I just recently adopted a puppy and I'm a soph in college. A pup is REALLY time consuming... you need to train them, you need to feed them at the same time every day, you need to make sure they get enough exercise, etc.

The companionship is definitely worth it though. I've already forgotten what life was like before he came.

------

And yes, female dogs have periods but if you live in the US you are required to spay and neuter your pets and many animal shelters actually do it before you adopt them too.

As for training, it depends on how much time you have and how much experience you have training a dog. If you are a n00b then going to an obedience training school might be good.

I think my dog's sick or something. Her body (especially ears and head) is very hot. Her stomach growls all the time even though she eats somewhat regularly. When she licks, her tongue is pretty cold. But she acts completely fine. She jumps around and is playful and is like her usual self. Is this normal?

i don't knoe about the cold tongue and all that stuff....but i know that you can tell when a dog has a fever by their ears... like red ears or hot ears means that your dog has a fever...i'd check that out....
