I have a 1 1/2-year old Toy Poodle
and I was wondering if there was any way to mellow him out?
he always jumps around and barks so loud.
It's easy to deal with
but I just wish that he could be calm for once.
I just took him to the groomer's today and when I came back
he was the only one whining and making a big fuss
while everyone was so calm and friendly-looking.
I also want to be able to let other people pet him. :|

I plenty of solutions for you. lol dogs bark a lot because:
1) he has way too much energy and needs to get rid of it, meaning you should play with him a lot more so he gets tired out
2) he just wants attention.

The best way I think is to ignore him when he barks and when he's quiet give him treats and use a higher happy toned voice to praise him verbally. or you can try telling him "NO" in a firm but not yelling tone. than when he gets quiet give him a treat and praise him for doing something that you want him to do. the key thing is to be consistent because it takes time for him to learn that you don't like his barking. here are some websites that might be helpful also..

well, i have a 32L tank.
bought 6 guppies, 4 suicide cases within 6 days.
Left with two really healthy ones.

just wondering, how often do you change the water in the tank?
I am supposed to use a gravel cleaner to do it.

if the water is clean, do you still need to clean it?
is it a must to use water conditioners, etc?

hope someone can answer that tongue.gif

I don't know about guppies, but I do a 33% water change for my goldfish/koi tank like once every 2-3 weeks.
NEWSFLASH: I HAVEN'T BEEN A MODERATOR FOR LIKE 2-3 YEARS, SO STOP MESSAGING ME ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS.

Awww, cute baby kittens! Well I think that its not worth getting insurance for kittens, because they generally are nice and healthy. Depending on the insurance, usually they do not cover routine visits and only cover major surgeries and when they are very sick. Uh, registering...are you planning to keep them as indoor cats or outdoor? I would say to probably not register them and save a few bucks if you keep them indoors all the time. But if you let them wander, I would register them just incase they get picked up by the pound or something. Well I don't know where you live so I can't give any estimates, but usually kittens need boosters, yearly shots and checkups, and getting them fixed (and declawed if you want).

THANKS SO MUCH.... I got another question, i hear that if you give cats/kittens our milk they get dierrea...is that true? also what if they won't drink water what should i do?

Our milk (contrary to popular belief) isn't actually good for the cats. It'll actually give them digestion problems, like you listed up above. If they don't drink water, I would be worried. By worried, I mean if they don't, really don't, drink water, then I would be worried. I'd phone the vet if I were you, because there could be several reasons why the cats isn't drinking water.

Hope this helps!

^True! Dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant so like humans that are, milk can give them diarrhea. You can give them lactose-free milk if you want. I did that when I made my dog a birthday cake once.

hello everyone
so i have a goldfish that i really love dearly and im going off to college this year and i really want to take him too.
But i was wondering, how am i suppose to clean his tank? I think its a 10 gallon tank, so its pretty heavy with water in it. I usually clean it fully once every 3 months, and its actually a really time consuming process, cleaning the walls, rocks, plants and decorations it usually takes me an hour or so.
Im really worried that when i do go to college that i wont have anywhere to clean the tank or change the water
does anyone have any suggestions? I really want to take my fish with me tears.gif

Don't most colleges have a limit to the size of the fish tank you can have in your dorm? You may want to transfer your fish to a smaller tank if possible.

^ apparently dogs need whiskers to "feel" things to determine the distance if they can get through or not. e.g going through a gap in a door.

me & pets don't go together ><
i LOVE puppies,
but when they are TOO hyper & smells bad,
ohmy i run away ><

PETS & I

1. Five Goldfishes
my dad brought 5 goldfishes for me,
(and within 3 weeks, they all died) ><
i was taking out the dirty water, but then they needed
water & so yeah ><
died ..

2. Happy the Hamster, i begg my
dad for a hamster, and took care of Happy
for also 5 weeks max (?) and then
my uncle took the cage/home outside,
and them BAM!
HAPPY WAS GONE >< SHE/HE had escape
into the real world, (i think Happy died now) ><
OR! the damn neighbor's dog ate it *GLARES
died..

3. Princess the Beagle Dog, i had
fun times. I love my dog, but my dad
wouldn't let her inside the house, due
to her not taking a bath (Princess hates water on her body!)
fun times, walks & going to the park ~
and then BAM! my dad let Princess go ><
i think one of my neighbors kept Princess,
my sister swore she saw Princess one day.
CRIESS!! i miss my princess -_____________-;

4. Fatty the Rabbit, i was in 4th grade (?)
and stupid me, i ask my mom to write a note
to one of the teacher asking for a rabbit.
i actually wanted a small baby rabbit, but i
got Fatty. And well one of my friend's neighbor
loved Fatty so much, i had to give Fatty away.
and thats the end of Fatty, my friend said Fatty
died due to his overweight??
CRIESS!!

5. Parrots, my dad brought 4 (my cousins, my sister & i)
and well mines died after 1 week (my parrot keep laying there,
while the other damn birds flew in the cage ><

Well I think I replied sort of late, but I dont think ONE milk chocolate will hurt too much.
Dark chocolate is the worst for dogs.
If they haven't yet shown any signs of being sick then just continue to watch her carefully but most probably he will be ok.

Just for the record if anyone ever has a dog-chocolate related problem
My dog accidentally got into a box of Lindt chocolates once and ate 2 milk, 1 dark and 1 hazelnut pieces. I called the vet frantically and they told me the exact same thing. To force feed it a small amount of hydrogen peroxide 5% like around 10mL, and wait for it to vomit the chocolate back out. The hydrogen peroxide at that amount is pretty harmless to the dog, but for it to work it must be taken 30 mins to 1 hour after ingestion. LOL but be ready to clean up the humongous mess of vomit. I was gagging while trying to clean up the chunks of chocolate mixed with stomach acid. Make sure your dog eats or drinks some water afterwards.

My mother's dog on the other hand was totally immune to chocolate. She used share her boxes of chocolate with him and give all the flavours she didnt like to him. He was fine and lived to a healthy age of 12. Maybe he was just a freak of nature smile.gif

^ wow--that dog was lucky--or it just avoided totally getting any dark chocolate (or macadamia nuts) at all. o_o

Hye Jin-- aznscrewball is right-- little bits of milk chocolate won't usually hurt your dog--DARK chocolate can be poisonous--even a little bit to a small animal can be deadly--and that should be kept where no one except people can get at it. >< Dark choc has more theobromine than milk--and the higher the cocoa content--the more theobromine there is. Unsweetened dark baking chocolate is the worst because it has a very high cocoa content.

we used to give our dogs 4 or 5 m&ms, but just to be safe, no more than that (and all chocolate is put away anyway, just in case).

Well if he's a puppy you have to take him outside a lot. Like after naps, after he wakes up in the morning, after you play with him, and after he eats. when he DOES go outside praise him a lot and even give him a treat so he knows that you like when he goes potty outside. try to stay outside with him until he pees and poops no matter how long it takes. if he does not potty and you have to go back inside the house, make sure you watch him closely when he is back inside the house than take him back outside in like 10 or so minutes. i just got a puppy april 1, and i have already potty trained him. the key to potty training him is to be consistent. if he does go in the house DO NOT PUNISH HIM! only say a firm NO if you CATCH him pooing or peeing in the house. otherwise you should just blame yourself for not taking him outside enough. make sure you clean up his mess and use a cleaner that removes your puppy's scent(Miracle Oder & Stain remover from Petsmart is good). don't use any ammonia based products because it will only make your dog think it is another dog's scent and he will just go again in that spot.. remember.. he is only a puppy and he is still learning, so you have to just make sure you take him out frequently and give him lots of praise when he does things right

every so often i see it floating sideways in its bowl not moving
and i get freaked out that its dead, but when i tap on the bowl it 'wakes up' and starts swimming around again
when it floats sideways like that, does that mean its sick?? aging?? going to die soon?? o_o

I heard that Chihuahuas are hard to train & housebreak? Is this true? Do any chihuaha owners think so? I was considering getting a chihuahua. happy.gif
