how the heck is a dog going to get sick in the rain? that is the most stupid thing i've heard. do you get sick every time the rain touches your hair?

so you`re saying a dog CAN`T get sick from going out in the rain at all?
i mean if he`s walking around 30-45 minutes in the rain he`s gonna get sick.
unless the dog`s trained to pee RIGHT as soon as he`s outta the house.
i tried housebreaking my pup before during autumn - takes him an hour each time.
& occasionally he`d get sick.
humans do, i know that for a fact.
stay out in the rain/snow/bad weather too long, and you start sneezing, end up in bed the next day.

aside from all that, the owner`s just WORRYING. nothing wrong with a motherly instinct
not everybody`s nature is perfect. you make mistakes
...but i really don`t see a mistake in that. nothing wrong with teaching a dog to pee inside either.

Okay random question,

I googled for some answers, some said its okay some said its not... but is it okay to use a lazer pointer to train and play with a dog. Obviously, I know its bad if shone in his eyes. Others said that they can become OCD or stereotypie? So Im on the fence with this one. I was playing with it a little earlier just get him running since he's been sleeping inside the house all day.

I'm probably not gonna play with him using the lazer pointer all the time but occasionally, i dont want him to develop an OCD.

Why not throw a good ol' ball? I don't know if a laser is a good idea at all not because of the OCD thing but because you might accidentally point it into his eye by accident. Even though it may not be one of the powerful ones, its still not worth possibly blinding your dog. Dogs still like to play with balls smile.gif They run with balls smile.gif I am even scared of shining a flashlight towards my dog because she likes to look at me for no reason.

He;s on a short withdrawal from his Shiba play mate since his owners are in Jamaica, right now and with school starting up again we don't have that much time to take him out for extremely long walks (and with the snow). Also, he plays better with other dogs than with a ball or any of his toys. I was playing piggy in the middle with my bf today... when my brothers and i first started it he would run back and forth. Now he just sits in front of me...and goes after the ball when he feels like it. I don't want to "force" him to go after the ball =/

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a male betta for my 3 gal. tank (which I previously owned for other bettas) and I was wondering is it possible to add other fish or creatures in there with him? Because i know that male bettas get agressive but yeah I thought it wouldn't hurt to do some research though sweatingbullets.gif

Has anyone's puppies gotten canine parvovirus? Apparently it's a viral infection and it may cost your puppies' life. My half-year old puppy has got infected, unfortunately. I brought her to the vet today and got an injection. Has anyone gotten through this disease safely in the end?

The thing is that leaving her in the veterinary hospital cost so much -.- But I guess I have no choice if the disease begins to worsen for her.

I've never had a dog with parvo and i hope your puppy makes it sad.gif One thing is, start cleaning your house and everywhere your puppy has been and do it now *must use bleach to kill parvo* If your puppy has been in contact with any other puppies recently, tell the owners to get them tested asap. This is a VERY serious disease. Your pup isn't hospitalized? I don't remember but i thought that was required when they treat parvo. Parvo has an extremely high kill rate, so its best to do whatever the vets tell you even if it does cost a lot. Just remember the worst the disease gets, the longer she'll need to be hospitalized (and she'll be more likely to die) so you might wanna leave her there now.

Just to let yall know, she magically has gotten better after two injections. Even the vet was like she's one lucky dog. Now that she's getting better she's taking oral tablets now, it's cheaper but still as effective as injections. If anyone's puppies are in the situation (hope not), take it to the vets asap!

I love happy endings LOL.

I recently lost my dog. I wonder if this is the right topic to talk about this.
I'm really sad and so lonely without him.
I went around my neighborhood to look for my dog and I saw some random people walking down the streets.
I asked them if they saw my dog and they did and they stated how it looked like instead of me stating it.
They said some random lady in a white truck took it saying she was gonna take it to a responsibility place.
(Guessing animal center)

I went to animal center, almost everyday. I even checked online during school and see if they found my dog.
Seems like that lady kidnapped my dog.
My dog is pretty wild so I don't know how my dog even got in that car with her.
If dog is too wild for him to stay in a animal center..I wonder what happens.

I lost my dog at January 11/09 9pm+

I haven't post up signs yet (around my neighborhood) for my dog.

Anyone experienced this..and haven't or have found your dog?

I'm just so..depressed right now..Help anyone? any tips..

Put posters up around your neighborhood. Put a poster up (with a picture of your dog) at animal control and any vets in the area too. Did you leave a description of your dog with AC? Is your dog microchipped? Have a collar and tags on? Look for any animal rescue groups in your area, they might be able to help keep an eye out for him. Also, the lady might have took your dog to an AC a bit further from your house, if there are any other AC's around go to them as well. Check petfinder.com for more shelters and rescues in your area. Try posting a lost ad on craigslist.com. Good luck finding him!

Despite their name (we call Bettas Siamese Fighting Fish in my country), the Betta is a very peaceful community fish. As long as he's the only Betta, he should be absolutely fine. However, I would advise you to be careful of the fish you keep with him. Anything that nips (Tiger Barbs, for example) is a no-go, as they'll destroy his fins. I kept a blue male Siamese Fighter peacefully in a tank of Black Neon Tetras, so maybe you could try different breeds of tetra? Just make sure to ask at the fish shop when you buy him smile.gif

Ditto to the person up there wink.gif
But you can also research some of the types of fish Betta's aren't allowed to be with.. they can't even be with female Betta's.. it's safer, just incase your not not talking to a fish expert in the pet store =]
I wanted to get my Betta a friend too, but he's way to aggressive.. he flares at my coloured hair ties & perfume bottles dry.gif

MY QUESTION:

I have 2 hermit crabs, but they don't really move around in their tank.. dry.gif
They only crawl around when i put them on my bed or desk, so i was thinking of ways to give them more exercise.
I know I could put them in the backyard, but I'd rather not.. my dog might eat it crazy.gif && i hate tying her up.. she puts on her sad face sweatingbullets.gif

So, I was wondering if anyone has ever put their hermit crab in those rat/mice/hamster runner balls??
Do they have the strength to roll them around? Is it safe for them?
If so, recommended size? I don't want them pushing around a huge thing that wears them out.. or putting them in a tiny one that makes them feel confined..

Replies are much appreciated ^^

I own a yorkie dog, he's pretty aggressive for a small dog. Every time we would have visitors or strangers knocking on the door, he would aggressively bark at them.

What to do? mellow.gif

I toilet trained my dog to only toilet outside from the outset and he had very few accidents in the house smile.gif I'm assuming your dog (puppy?) isn't house trained yet, correct? When you see your dog start to sniff the floor/circle, this is a sign that it needs to use the toilet. Pick it up, even if it's half way through having a wee (don't scold it, just pick it up), and take it straight to the place you want it to toilet. Let it finish doing it's business and praise it lots and lots when it goes in the right place! Good luck smile.gif

my dog takes an hour every time i take her out to find her spot to pee and poop. this is one of the responsibilities that should be expected when you adopt a pet into your life. my dog does not get sick when she is out in the rain. dogs have fur and can survive in the outdoors much longer than humans can. my dog plays out in the snow in the winter and takes even longer to find a spot to pee when it rains and she does not get sick. by keeping your dog in and making him/her hold in their pee will make them even more sick than any rain would. i don't end up in bed the next day as you claim from being out in the rain for too long.

if you get sick or your dog gets sick simply from being in the rain for a bit then you need to get your immune system checked and your dog's as well. a dog with such a weak immune system is much more susceptible to diseases. there are probiotics and other supplements you can add to your pet's diet if your pet has a weak immune system.
