For college, is it better to take Psychology or Sociology? Based on your own recommendation, which class should I take? Easier & less boring, too.

Also, anybody can give me some examples of courses that fulfill the humanities category? ;x

IMO Sociology was A LOT better than Psycology on many different levels.
I learned a lot more and it was a fun class.
I spent most of my time studying for psychology than I did in all of my other classes combined.
However, my socy class was 3 creds and my psych class was 4.. so naturally the workload was different.
Even if they were the same, the subject material for psych wasn't even that interesting. I just memorized a bunch of terms.

I'm currently enrolled in Psych. and I hate it with passion.
I NEVER go to class, except for exams. lol.
I think it's because my professor sucks butt big time.
He's so boring and...everything else boring and dumb. lol.
Psych. is basically just a bunch of who did what and what does what with behavior and such.
Maybe Socio. will be more interesting, but then again, it depends on the professor.

Humanities - I'm taking two classes that cover early Greek civilization and movement towards the West.
And I actually like them - my professors are good and they make class interesting.

i wish i could hurt you as much as you hurt me
i wish you would love me as much as i loved you

It really depends on the professor. I loved both psychology and sociology, but I found that the topics for psychology was more interesting for me except learning about all the brain stuff.
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
Even though I really loved you
I'm gonna smile 'cause I deserve to.

I've taken both Psych 101 and Soc 101. Frankly, I preferred Psych 101 better. But then again, it also depends on the professor. IFor one of my Psych classes, we did a lot of observing more than we spent time on the terms.

Obviously 101 is just an introductory course...most of the interesting topics come after this class. =)

I took both psy100 and soc100 (introductory courses) and I thought both were very very easy. My soc100 teacher was really crazy so I hated the class but I loved my psychology class. I took psychology before and even the 2nd time around it was pretty interesting.

i actually took psych 101 for a gened requirement. I got a great professor and I loved the class so much, I switched to a psych major and now i LOVE ITTTTT.

psychology is awesome. but it depends on the person. So try to go to ratemyprofessors.com to see what students have to say.
Please don't forget me. { I'm going away. }
I'm taking a taxi to Kentucky where they don't even know all about me. I just need to feel s a f e.
I've got a thousand sweaters, and shoes, and paintings to hide the skeletons in my way.
But he said, "Slow down, slow down. Think it over, we've all got wretched closets, but silly girl pride kills more than Aids lately."
I said, "Come on, I thought it over. I don't wanna die here. I have no desire to get m♥rried."
Every night I pray for you, don't believe in heaven or that it could be a happy place.

I never took either but I know people who are taking those courses and more people seem to like psych over soc. But I think it depends on the prof. The psych prof who teaches psy101 here is apparently realllly good. So that might be why? =\

i took both, and I've always liked psych alot more. granted, there is alot more studying, but i just find it more interesting. though i imagine it could be a very boring class with a bad prof.

i'm actually taking cross cultural psych right now, it's pretty fun.

It depends on the professor. I took Intro Psych and I learned a lot from it. I love the demonstrations that my prof did in class to prove his points.
I also took Sociology, and I had fun too but it wasnt as fun as Psych.

Im taking child development for psych right now, and it's fun...I get to know more about infants. happy.gif

exactly. .__. i took soc 101 too, and i must say i didn't learn anything (well just a lil bit) in that subject. :x sounds a bit rude.. lol but maybe sociology is just isn't my thing. on the other hand, i did so much better on psych. [; except the brain part and the large amount of stuff you're gonna memorize.. it's really fun! ^o^

I took both psychology and sociology both intro courses. Psychology was alot more interesting than sociology to me, because my professor was able to relate some of the topiics to our daily lives. However, the exams were extremely difficult like cramming the nightbefore was suicide, because there was soo much information to cover. You had to do well on the exams since our grades were 2 exams and the final. Sociology was good as well it was probably less interesiting to me than psych because the class was at dinner time and usually Im tired during that time. The exams were not that bad compared to psych. In terms of easiness do sociology. I think though really it is helpful on how the professor teaches the class that makes it interesting. Go to ratemyprofessor.com to find a professor that is good for w/e class u decide to take.

i never took soc 101 because i heard it was harder, so i took psy 101 instead and it was one of the best college classes ever. blush.gif that was one of the few classes where i wanted to read for class. lol. i was even considering on majoring in psy afterwards, but my parents didn't really like that.-__-; anywhos, it also helped that i had an excellent professor.

It definitely differs from professor to professor. As long as they are rated well on ratemyprofessors.com, you should not feel like there is a huge dilemma.

Personally, I've only taken sociology, and from my perspective, it is definitely an interesting topic (and who knows.. if you absorb enough of it, you can bring up topics during cocktails!). I did not enjoy my professor's lectures, as it were more so summarizing the essays we read in our textbook and not discussions of the subject at hand. However, I did enjoy my textbook a lot. I ended up keeping it. It has been a year since I've taken sociology, and I still keep in touch with the subject.

But then again, I also keep in touch with economics, and a lot of people hate that.

The instructor listed for my PSY class are all "staff" so I have no idea what kind of a professor they would be T.T.

I really don't want a class to make me fall asleep and I really don't want a class where I have to remember so much stuff because I have issues with memory x-x.

Ugh. I hated Psych. Long boring lectures. sleep.gif ... I'm currently taking Sociology and I like it A LOT better, it's a lot easier for me. I would suggest Sociology from personal experience.

And also from personal experience....

NEVER take Philosophy. OMG. Crazy hard class!

Reality. It's so much more interesting than living happily ever after.
