lol i had to write a satire recently also! I have to say, it was the best paper I've written in my senior year so far. I was proud of it ( i better get an A -.-). Anywho, I wrote about obesity. In a satire, you gotta have some humor and exaggeration going on, but still talk about your topic. If ya need some help I'll tell you the rubric my teacher gave me, it helped me a lot.

I think satires are both fun to read and write. I agree that a lot of exaggeration should be used, to make your point. As for a topic, hm, something that is well-known and would be understood by others is good. I think the ideas that you listed would be interesting. In sophomore year I wrote a satire on Paris Hilton; she makes for a good subject to satirize. :]

Can your essay be about anything? Or does it have to be more philosophical?
I never wrote about people or things, but ideas.

Anyway, My Am. Lit teacher just loved those satire essays sleep.gif
One of my favorites was about the '20s and the american dream.
A book that helped a lot was Great Gatsby.

go look up : a modest proposal by jonathon swift

i thought it was hilarious....i mean..if you GET satire..it should be an okay read...i had to write a piece for my jr. AP english class and i entitled it: an indecent proposal...i wrote about the pointless of tiny pieces of cloth covering celebrity bodies and proposed that we all go naked. laugh.gif you`ll get what i`m talking about after you read swift`s piece, if you haven`t already. it was fun. but like someone suggested, the onion.com has good examples.

i wouldn`t write about politics unless you are an amazing writer. you might come off as immature, esp. considering you aren`t sure how to write satire yet...just a suggestion. go with something you know.
