the first few weeks of school, everyone feels the same way you do. lost, confused, "wow i'm in college now," etc.
you are not the only one new there. 1/4 of your school is, as well. and believe me, almost EVERYONE is friendly for the first couple of weeks. everyone is looking for a new friend lol
if you are naturally outgoing, then great. if you tend to be more introverted, try joining something on campus, it could be anything including intramural sports, community service organizations, culture clubs, or even rushing for a frat/sorority if you're into that sort of thing. they are all great ways to meet people with similar interests.

you`re not alone in being afraid of being a loner!! x]
i`m pretty scared myself :T
... but it's okay.
i`m sure you`ll befriend your roommate & people in your hall.
SJSU is not a bad place :] my brother went there & i used to stay with him during weekends for fun.

It'll be a challenge, but once you get use to talking to classmates.. you'll be fine.
I went to college without knowing no one, but trust me, you'll meet a TON of people
in the same situation as you.
College isn't like High School. Everyone has their own stories, and MANY of them
are students who are dorming or something. You'll fit in.

no, they don't for the most part.

I see it VERY differently. College is all about networking for the future. If you don't get friendly, you won't be successful later on, because face it, a lot of the times, your success in an area depends HIGHLY on who you know.

I'm kinda scared.
Just out of curiosity, why did you choose SJSU?
Anyway, I know how you feel. I'm actually currently residing in SJ, but will most likely be moving down south (either San Diego, Santa Barbara, or Irvine) for college. I have no friends there. No relatives (at least none that I know of o.O). Nothing. On one hand, I think it'll be quite lonely and intimidating, but on the other hand, I'm kind of looking forward to the experience. I mean, I've grown up in NorCal all my life, so I think it'll be nice to experience something different for a change, as well as learning to become more independent. I'm sure a lot of people are also in the same situation, but when it comes to college, CHANGE is one of the biggest factors. Also, I've been to SJSU more than a few times, and personally, I find that it possesses a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Granted, it's only about a 15-20 minute drive from where I live, but I've also visited a lot of other colleges in my area that do not give me this feeling. Of course, how comfortable a certain campus is is completely subjective, but I do honestly think that you'll have a great time there... er, here.
Now, if only I can convince myself to feel the same way about San Deigo. lol j/k But seriously, just don't set your mind on pessimistic mode, and I'm sure you'll get used to it in no time.
