Hmm Im not sure this topic has been covered yet, but I haven't seen one before anyways~ Always there are reoccurring thoughts that go through my head of dropping out of school. Im starting to have doubts that if I did select the right major for me. I always tell myself I have a year left before I graduate so I should stick through it. IDK what the problem is because my freeshmen and sophmore year I was a total dork I studied the whole day (This included on Friday nights and Saturdays) and maybe had to 2-3 hours out the day to eat and do w/e. Now this year Ive been a complete mess~ Like I barely study now a-days and I have to force myself to study all the time, but always end up procratinating or not studying at all. When Im in class I barely even pay attention anymore. IDK I feel maybe its cuz Im burnt out? I did consider taking a semester off to recooperate, but I feel like I would regret doing that~ Anyways anyone has gone through this dilemna before?

I am sort of having those feelings right now. I'm in electronics engineering, and a semester ago, I felt as though I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon it.

Now that I am only taking one class as a part-time student, I have found a ton of free time to read books of all sorts of subjects. I am so engulfed by it that I sometimes forget to study for the one class that I am taking, usually hiding in the corner of the cafe reading the latest novel that I picked randomly from the bookstore. All sorts of ideas run through my mind. Now I feel as though I want to become a writer instead of an engineer (I know, big jump), or even play poker professionally (yes, I am that confident in my game).

If it wasn't for the fact that I am in my third year with so few time left, I think I would strongly consider changing my major. It is at a point where it probably would be far too late for a minor as well (as if my school even offers minors).

Many people would suggest grinding out the last year or two, just because you've gone so far. Others would suggest making that huge change to avoid the regret of spending more time with a major that you're not fully passionate about. What would I say?

Hell, I'm going through the same problem. I would love to "grind" out my last year and a half, but sometimes I question my abilities as an engineer. I would consider changing my major, but not only have I invested so much money and time into this major, I am neither entirely sure that I want to be a writer or poker player, nor do I hate engineering. I actually like it.

Taking that small amount of time off would not be a terrible idea, if that means that you can fully understand where you are going with your life and where you would like for it to go. I would do that, but that would displace me a year off, not just a semester off. If you can afford to take a semester off (meaning that your graduation rate would only be pushed off by the amount of time you take your break), then there shouldn't be any reason to take a break, or at least that is my take on the issue.

My parents would discourage me to take that kind of break, only because they are overly concerned about the wrong problems. They are concerned that I would be off the track. They just don't realize that many people take time off, and there is nothing wrong with being a bit late compared to those others at the same age. Such a shame too, because I actually believe that I am more mature than many of my age (but that is just the arrogance in me talking, so do your best to ignore that last comment tongue.gif ).

are you a 3rd year student??

maybe you are not doing something that is fun for you.
like, im doing politics. it is hard as it can be, but i like it so it keeps me moving.

studying your first 2 years was not a bad thing.
maybe you should go outside more. get at least 15 minutes in the sun. which they say is healthy.

do something that makes you happy.
i honestly believe with all my heart and soul that happiness is important.

find out what you are doing that is not making you happy.
and i dont mean happy.. i mean HAPPY.
if you feel like you are doing things because you have to... then you arent happy about doing them. only because you have to.

if you need a break to find yourself, to recollect your energy, that will be fine.
i took a semester off (even though i didnt want to, stupid dorms!!!) and i was happy being home.
i came back to school with energy and more motivation. (cause im behind a semester).

i hope you find out what is bugging you and be happy, excited, and motivated again.
you are doing good in college, right? i assume by how you at least care about how you're feeling.

good luck!!
you can do it!!
